🌟 Help us welcome Dr. Virada Kanchanapun, one of our newest fellows in Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Dental Oncology!

Dr. Kanchanapun earned her DDS at Thammasat University in Thailand before completing her Advanced Prosthodontics training nearby at the University of Minnesota. We are so glad she chose to stay in MN for her fellowship!

Why Mayo Clinic? It all comes down to the culture: "I chose Mayo Clinic because of its outstanding reputation, patient-centered approach to care, and strong emphasis on education and teamwork."

🏡 Hometown: Bangkok, Thailand
🍲 When she’s not treating patients: She’s a major foodie who loves exploring local restaurants and trying different cuisines. (Give her your best Rochester food recs in the comments! 👇)
🔮The Future: Dr. Kanchanapun plans to return home to Thailand to practice in areas where specialized maxillofacial prosthodontists are needed most.

Welcome to the Dental Specialties family! 😀

🌟 We’re excited to introduce Dr. Sarah Alkhashram, one of our newest fellows in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics and Dental Oncology!

Dr. Alkhashram earned her DDS degree from Creighton University before moving to Texas, where she completed her advanced specialty training in Prosthodontics at the UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry.

For Dr. Alkhashram, training here is the fulfillment of a long-held dream: "The opportunity to train alongside world-renowned faculty, while caring for patients with complex rehabilitative needs, makes this fellowship an incredible opportunity to grow both professionally and personally."

🏡 Hometown: Kuwait City, Kuwait
☕ When she’s not treating patients: You can find her café hopping, staying active, or checking out Rochester’s Thursdays Downtown festival.
🔮The Future: After her fellowship, Dr. Alkhashram plans to return to Kuwait to provide comprehensive, life-changing care for patients with complex oral and facial defects.

We are so proud to have you on the team! 😀

🤔 Always wanted straighter teeth but thought you missed your chance? Think again!

Orthodontic treatment isn’t defined by age. With healthy gums, good periodontal support, and the motivation to achieve a healthier smile, many adults are excellent candidates for treatment. 🦷😊

We’re grateful to our amazing patient for allowing us to share these before-and-after photos, highlighting the transformation that can be achieved with orthodontic treatment. It’s never too late for a healthier, more confident smile. 😁

🦷 Braces + Good Oral Hygiene = A Healthy, Beautiful Smile! ✨

Braces are doing the important work of straightening your teeth, but they also create extra spaces where food and plaque can hide. That's why brushing and flossing every day are more important than ever!

Why does it matter?
🪥 Helps prevent cavities and tooth decay
🦷 Reduces the risk of swollen or bleeding gums
✨ Prevents white spots on teeth after braces come off
😊 Keeps your breath fresh and your smile healthy throughout orthodontic treatment

How to Brush with Braces:
🪥 Brush after every meal (or at least twice a day) using a soft-bristled or electric toothbrush with fluoride toothpaste.
🪥 Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle toward the gumline and gently brush above and below each bracket.
🪥️ Use small circular motions and make sure to clean the front, back, and chewing surfaces of every tooth.
🪥️ Brush for at least 2 minutes, taking extra time around brackets and wires.

How to Floss with Braces:
🧵 Use a floss threader, orthodontic floss, or a water flosser to make cleaning around the wires easier.
🧵️ Carefully guide the floss under the archwire before sliding it gently between two teeth.
🧵 Wrap the floss into a "C" shape around each tooth and move it up and down below the gumline.
🧵 Repeat between every tooth each day.

By following these simple steps, you'll keep your teeth and gums healthy while your braces do their job! 😁

🎉 Congratulations to Hope on her 5-year anniversary at Mayo Clinic!

Hope has been a licensed dental assistant for over 14 years, but we’re pretty sure the best 5 have been the last 5 with us. 😉 In all seriousness, she is an amazing patient advocate who goes above and beyond every single day. 💪❤️

As a primary assistant supporting our maxillofacial prosthetics and dental oncology fellows, Hope takes on one of the most complex and challenging roles with skill, compassion, and grace. 🌟✨ And let’s not forget her hidden talent… if something’s broken, don’t call maintenance—call Hope! 🔧😉

We are so lucky to have you, Hope. Thank you for your dedication, your humor, and all that you do for our patients and team. Here’s to many more years! 🎉
