New weekly series starting today: a journal prompt to sit with, once a week.

This week: When you give yourself permission to feel, what's the first emotion that comes up? There's no right answer here - just notice what surfaces.

We'll be back with a new prompt each week. Save this one so it's easy to find again.

That’s a wrap on our 5 Stages of Grief series. Thank you for following along this July as I walked through each stage - Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance.

If you’re in it right now, however that looks for you: you’re not alone here.

Acceptance. Moving forward doesn't mean moving on. 🤍

People often think acceptance means you've made peace with your loss.

For me, that's not what acceptance looks like in this moment.

Two years later, I still haven't accepted that my daughters have to grow up without their amazing father. I still haven't accepted that I lost the love of my life. I do know that this is my current understanding and it may change tomorrow, next month or even next year.

Acceptance isn't about approving of what happened or leaving your loved one behind. It's about slowly learning how to carry a reality you never wanted while continuing to love the person you lost.

This closes out our 5 Stages series. Where are you in your journey - swipe through and tell me below.

Depression isn't just sadness. For some widows, it shows up as a lack of appetite, energy, or motivation, or even in their ability to get through everyday life.

I am sharing what that looked like for me: navigating postpartum while grieving my best friend and soulmate of almost 20 years, losing 25 lbs in the first few weeks post-delivery, forcing myself to eat so I could support my newborn's life, and having only four days without tears that whole first year.

If this feels familiar, be gentle with yourself. You're not failing, you're carrying a loss that has changed every part of your life. Sometimes, simply making it through the day is enough.

Watch to hear my story, and stay tuned for the next stage: acceptance.

Swipe through, today we're talking about Bargaining, one of the hardest stages to admit out loud.

When my husband Stephen was dying, I found myself praying like I never had before. Begging God for one more chance. Promising I'd devote my life to his recovery if he could just fight a little longer.

I didn't know it at the time, but that's exactly what bargaining looks like. And once I learned about the Kübler-Ross model, it made so much sense: of course bargaining is part of grief. How could it not be?

If you've ever made promises to a God, the universe, or a version of fate that couldn't hear you, you're not alone. Tell us below if this stage has shown up for you.

For some widows, anger can show up in many different ways. It may be directed at the situation, at life, at God, at yourself - or it may simply feel like overwhelming emotion with nowhere to go.

ANGER isn't something to be ashamed of. It's often one expression of profound grief.

If you've experienced anger, know that it doesn't mean you're losing control. It may simply be your mind and body responding to a life that changed in an instant.

If you've ever found yourself praying for one more chance, or wondering "what if", don't miss the next video.

I spent the first full year in DENIAL. It was as if my head and heart would not connect and align on my new reality. I remember texting a colleague of my husband's during the week of his one-year anniversary and telling them, "it is today that I realize he is not coming home."

For that whole first year, my inner thoughts always came back to: how is this my new reality? If your heart hasn't fully caught up to what your mind knows, you're not alone.

Grief unfolds differently for every widow, and there's no right timeline.

Grief isn’t something you get over. It’s something you learn to carry.

Starting tomorrow, I’m walking you through the five stages of grief not as a textbook definition, but through my own experience of losing my husband, Stephen.

The moments that broke me. The lessons I’m still learning. The truth that grief doesn’t move in a straight line.

If you see yourself in any part of this series, I want you to know: YOU’RE NOT ALONE.

Follow along, we begin tomorrow with DENIAL.

You are not broken. You are grieving. And there is a difference.

The five stages of grief gave many of us the words to describe what we're feeling. But there's one important piece that's often overlooked: grief is not a roadmap.

There is no right order. No finish line. No timeline.

Swipe through to learn more, and then I'd love to hear from you: Has your grief followed the five stages, or has it felt more like your own unique journey?
