Looking for inspiration to submit your abstract to the 2027 ILTS Congress in Montreal? Look no further than what was presented in Geneva earlier this year.

At the 30th ILTS Congress, researchers from around the world shared work that is genuinely pushing the field forward. A multicenter study demonstrating that auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplantation provides durable recovery in pediatric fulminant hepatic failure, with a 25-year overall survival of 97.6%. Research showing that human livers can now be preserved ex vivo for up to 7 weeks using a fully automated normothermic machine perfusion platform. A prospective study establishing NLR as a robust biomarker for predicting infection and one-year mortality after liver transplantation. Engineering of off-the-shelf CAR-T cells resistant to tacrolimus, opening a new avenue for treating post-transplant tumor recurrence. And long-term outcome data showing that living liver donors have similar mortality outcomes to the matched general population.

ESOT, Elita, and ILTS are calling on transplant centers worldwide to contribute to an important international survey: "Evaluation of Split Liver Transplantation Practices, Techniques, and Advanced Perfusion Technologies."

This survey covers current split liver transplantation activity, technical approaches to liver splitting, the use of machine perfusion technologies in liver splitting and pediatric liver transplantation, and challenges, barriers, and future opportunities in the field.

One response per center is requested, with separate responses for adult and pediatric programs where applicable. We recommend having your center's split liver and pediatric transplant volumes available before starting, as it will help you move through the questionnaire efficiently. Completion time is approximately 60 minutes.

Centers that fully complete the survey are eligible to be acknowledged as Collaborative Group Authors in all future publications generated from this work—a meaningful recognition of your contribution to the evidence base.

Deadline: October 15, 2026.

October 16 is approaching, and if you haven't registered yet for the ILTS & SATA Joint Meeting in San Diego, now is the time.

This one-day meeting covers the full perioperative spectrum of liver transplantation. Sessions include optimization of intraoperative hemodynamics, covering postreperfusion and vasoplegic syndrome, a dedicated presentation from the ILTS Cardiac Special Interest Group on rethinking preoperative cardiovascular evaluation, a pro/con debate on transfusion strategy (plasma-based versus factor concentrates), real-world case presentations spanning acute liver failure to postoperative pain management, and a forward-looking session on future directions in transplant anesthesiology.

The day closes with addresses from ILTS President Dr. Wojciech P***k and SATA President Dr. Lorenzo De Marchi.
