The Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) is a national organization that unites medical students interested in the health issues that affect Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi Americans (APIDA).

APAMSA Hepatitis grant recipient Texas A&M Medical Health Science Center held a Hepatitis talk with Dr. Dawn Sears, Chief of Hepatology section and GI fellowship director at BSW in Temple. Nursing students and medical students were both invited to the event where Dr. Sears spoke about recognizing and treating. She talked about her outreach efforts in Killeen Texas and how to educate and counsel patients about risks and treatment. We learned about drug resistance, different presentations of Hepatitis, cultural implications of Hepatitis and specific groups at risk.

We encourage chapters to apply for hepatitis education grants. Applications are due 4 weeks prior to the event and can be found at hepatitis.apamsa.org/grants.

Finding a bone marrow donor match is hard, but it is even tougher for people of mixed race. The film Mixed Match explores the role of race in medicine, and follows multiracial patients on their search for a donor.
