Most people, I think attribute older horses to needing bodywork. Which obviously is important for them, considering the work they are in, the wear and compensations they already have in their bodies.
What some think is that younger horses don’t need bodywork. I hear people say “they are young, they shouldn’t be in pain.” But the reality is this is the perfect time for bodywork to set their bodies up to be better when they are older. To help them through acute tensions and compensations before they are chronic and it becomes harder to relieve. It can help support them through starting as a ridden horse and even with some basic things as learning to hold their feet up for the farrier.
I’m very happy that I currently have quite a few young horse clients that have been under saddle for only a short period of time or are just starting out riding. These owners have told me they want to support their horses as they are learning so they can make sure they aren’t creating any long term issues during this process. Which honestly, I think is the perfect way to start out a horse 💕
