Our Story
In George Orwell's 1984, what absolutely dehumanizes is the act of betrayal. When we push another body to take the bullet for us, we know that we have done the worst to obliterate our human core. We cannot help but think that we do exactly the same thing when we fail to listen. It is an act of omission. It is a "negative betrayal", as it were, annihilating the human spirit by our silence and muteness. One does not implicate as in a treachery but it is a betrayal all the same. When our humanity reaches out to another with the expectation of love, caring, or any response for that matter, incredulous or otherwise, and when we do not get a hearing, we feel betrayed and our faith in the rest of the human race experiences a withering.
Mental Health Hour was established in July 7, 2018 in an attempt to respond, if not prevent, this act of betrayal. Listeners of this humble attempt try to restore faith in our humanness by reminding those who come and be during the hour, and by the same merit reminding themselves, that persons can be real persons to one another. Mental Health Hour is thus a promise. It is a promise to be present even for just a moment for another soul pining for a mirroring, a validation, confirmation, reverberation, and a resonance. This is the absolute assurance and guarantee of this group.
