What Are Added Sugars?
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend limiting added sugars to less than 10% of daily calories for people 2 years and older. For a 2,000-calorie diet, that means consuming less than 50 grams (about 12 teaspoons) of added sugars per day.
✅ Added sugars include: • Table sugar
• Honey
• Syrups
• Sugars added during the processing or preparation of foods and beverages
🚫 Added sugars do not include the sugars naturally found in: • Fruits
• Vegetables
• Milk and unsweetened dairy products
💡 A simple way to reduce added sugars is to choose water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages and compare Nutrition Facts labels when shopping for food and drinks. For more information visit
