"A reminder that behind every uniform is a human being processing loss in real time. That even when crews appear composed, smiling, and professional, many are carrying the weight of what has just happened."

Some of our most powerful ways to support is by acknowledging this weight and honouring it with unconditional, compassionate regard.

We can do this in very subtle ways, even just a look of, 'I am with you' and 'thank you for your important service', can bring great comfort in times like these.

It is the constants and steadies in an unsteady and shattering experience that are by far the most helpful. Not to disregard what has just happened but to reinforce our need for stability.

This is how we share the load, so it's not all on the few. 🕊

This Jazz Aviation Captain’s PA Shows What Crew Are Dealing With in the Wake of a Deadly Crash

When the aviation industry experiences a tragedy like what happened Sunday night, when an Air Canada Express flight operated by Jazz Aviation collided with an airport emergency vehicle on the runway in New York, it can feel like everything stops.

But the truth is, aviation doesn’t stop.

Flights still depart. Crews still report for duty. Passengers still board. The system keeps moving.

And yet, behind the scenes, the people who keep this industry running do so with a heavy feeling in their hearts. Because no matter the airline, no matter the country, we all understand what was lost.

Even on the other side of the world, there’s a shared weight that comes with every tragedy.

That reality was quietly captured in a video now circulating in the aftermath of the crash.

In it, a captain operating an Air Canada Express flight steps into the cabin to personally deliver his welcome announcement. His tone is calm, composed, but unmistakably heavy, and his message is clear: don't ask questions!

“To make this incredibly hard moment a little easier on all of us, I humbly request that you avoid asking questions on the nature of the accident to our cabin crew and other colleagues today,” he tells passengers. “The situation is incredibly complex, still developing, and we’re not authorized to comment at this instant.”

It wasn’t just an announcement. It was a reminder.

A reminder that behind every uniform is a human being processing loss in real time. That even when crews appear composed, smiling, and professional, many are carrying the weight of what has just happened.

For passengers, it may be just another flight.

For crew, it’s a day they won’t forget.

And sometimes, all it takes is one voice on a PA to remind everyone on board of that truth.

Please continue to stand United By Wings and look out for each other always.

The critical incident at LaGuardia has my attention and compassionate regard 🕊️

From my side, I’m taking a bit of time to slow things down and not rush to make sense of it. I know my system is likely still catching up.

I’m staying connected with people I trust—especially those who understand the work—and not keeping it to myself.

If I notice it sticking or replaying, I’m not brushing that off. I’ll talk it through sooner rather than later.

I’m also keeping things simple where I can over the next few days—getting rest where possible, staying steady in routine, and giving myself a bit of margin.

Sharing in case it’s useful for anyone else navigating the same.

Holding the incident and everyone involved with care and encouraging expression and camaraderie at this very sad time. I am with you.
