The dark side of Pain therapy is when you deliver the news to pain sufferers that their pain is unable to be “cured”. That their pain may never disappear out of their conscious experience. That their pain is a part of their life. This is a harsh truth to digest for the individual especially if they have been involved in the merry go round of pain medicine and have not met the false promises of freedom from pain.
There is a bright side amidst the darkness though and that comes from the gentle inquiry into their story, the real and honest questions slowly work their way through the many knots in their belief system to help them see pain as an ally, a way their nervous system is communicating to attend to them self. The grip of pain will loosen, not clinging for your attention but leading you to salvation.
It is a truly humbling experience when you see the untangling of their armour built from the inside out to protect them from the threat valence of their pain experience, real or perceived, from the deep chambers of their despair the rebuilding begins, towards a deeper connection with the self, transcending from the confines of their body into a space where clarity and peace arise as sediments from their chaos.
