A Kink in the Cure The practice of Therapeutic Kink is an exploration into the healing of sexual shame and trauma through the practice of kink and BDSM.

A Kink the Cure was designed to explore the fascinating, and still hidden, stories of abuse survivors who identify as “kinky.” The piece provides a frank look at some uncomfortable truths about sexual abuse and violence in our culture. Like a kinky Vagina Monologues, focusing on the survivors’ experiences, we address the ways in which “kink” has acted as both a barrier and a benefit to those attem

pting to address the lingering shame and trauma resulting from their abuse. The live performance, as well as the written work, includes stories from people who have a history of sexual abuse and trauma. Each of these individuals found that the practice of BDSM has had effect on their healing process.

I watch as the marks rise. That instant after impact is made and the skin warms with the blood rushing to its aid.

I watch as the blood comes to the surface and the little telltale signs of longer-lasting marks begin to appear. Those ever pleasing signs of marked flesh.

I watch as the breathing increases pace. The chest heaves, nostrils flare, and her mouth hangs open with want.

I watch as legs begin to tremble. That enticing quiver that is now involuntary due to her near inability to stand.

I watch as her sweat begins to slide down her face, chest, across her ni***es and drip to her feet. That sweat that carries with it not the smell of fear or rage, but of s*x and desire.

I watch as the breathing slows and control returns. The high is reduced and the sensation begins to fade.

With time each mark will fade, each bruise will fade, but the feelings never do. The feelings linger with each breath and memory.
