Cure Day Hospitals Paarl continues to deliver exceptional care while embracing advanced medical innovation.

We are proud to share a milestone achievement: Dr Lourens and Dr O’Farrell, orthopaedic surgeons based in Paarl, recently performed a first for our facility - a Touch CMC joint replacement on a female patient with osteoarthritis of the thumb.

Developed in Europe and used successfully for over 25 years, the Touch CMC replacement offers effective pain relief and improved hand function. For patients who previously underwent CMC joint excision arthroplasty and experienced recurring symptoms, an innovative technique now offers a promising solution by placing the prosthesis into the scaphoid bone instead of the trapezium.

This advancement marks an important step forward in restoring function and improving quality of life for patients with complex hand conditions.

Just over a year since opening, our team at Cure Day Hospitals Mbombela is steadily finding its rhythm as our hospital grows towards full theatre capacity. What stands out most is how effortlessly our nurses work together, united by a shared sense of purpose and a genuine willingness to support one another.

This unity is evident in the small yet meaningful moments - comforting a crying paediatric patient as they wake from anaesthesia, or offering gentle reassurance to an elderly patient after surgery. Our dedicated team recently completed training in Basic Adult, Child and Infant CPR and First Aid, as well as Basic Life Support training for Health Care Providers. These workshops ensure that every member of our staff is equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to respond swiftly and effectively in critical moments.

Investing in ongoing training reflects our commitment to safety, quality care, and putting our patients first—always.
