A heartfelt thank you to Ron Williams of Acupuncture, Health & Wellness for joining my Reiki Level 2 students this past Sunday as part of our Cross-Cultural Energy Work series.

Ron shared perspectives from his work in Traditional Chinese Medicine, including discussions on Qi, meridian theory, and energetic balance. He also spoke about the role Reiki plays in his professional practice and how he integrates it with Qi healing, in acupuncture treatments. Students were able to learn about the ways he bridges these traditions and how his understanding of energy work has evolved through years of study and clinical experience.

One of the goals of this series is to expose students to a variety of perspectives and experiences while encouraging thoughtful inquiry, discernment, and critical reflection. By hearing from practitioners with diverse backgrounds and approaches, students gain a broader understanding of the many ways energy work is understood and practiced across cultures and traditions.

Thank you, Ron, for sharing your time, experience, and perspective with our students. Your willingness to engage with our community and contribute to their learning is greatly appreciated.

I want to offer my sincere gratitude to everyone who joined me last Saturday evening for Fragrance Qigong (Xiang Gong, also known as Fragrant Enlightenment Qigong).
For some, the experience was invigorating and energizing; for others, it was more gentle and moderate. One of the beautiful aspects of Qigong is that it can be adapted to meet our individual needs at the moment.

We followed the Qigong practice with a deeply grounding meditation and a Self-Reiki session centered on the energy of unconditional love. Thank you for bringing your presence, openness, and willingness to explore. Sharing these practices that I love with the beautiful humans in this community is always a gift.

My highest hope is that even after you leave a class with me, you can carry that place of peace within you and access it whenever you need it most.

After class, two students shared (paraphrased from memory):
"That was the fastest two hours! I felt like I was transported."
"The energy we created in this room is so powerful."

Thank you all for bringing your beautiful energy and helping to create such a supportive practice space. I hope to practice with you again soon. 🙇🏻‍♀️

A heartfelt thank you to Liz Himmel (Instagram: ) for the wonderful presentation on Raja Yoga, Ayurveda, and the Chakra System that she offered on May 24 as part of our Cross-Cultural Energy Work series.

Liz guided us into a meaningful discussion of energetic balance, embodiment, and self-care practices in everyday life. As part of our larger conversation on how diverse healing traditions understand the movement and transformation of energy within the body, her presentation provided valuable philosophical, and cultural context.

One of the things I appreciated most was how Liz situated the chakra system within its broader yogic framework and how energy is balanced through the practices within the Ayurvedic medical theory. In many modern trainings, chakras are often presented as part of Reiki, disconnected from the traditions from which they emerged. Liz helped illuminate how Ayurveda operates as a distinct medical theory emphasizing balance among the body's life forces (doshas) which then balances the overall energy system of the body; and as a result, the chakra system.

This perspective also complements ongoing conversations about decolonizing Reiki, encouraging us to recognize the historical, cultural, and spiritual origins of the concepts and practices many teachers present in Reiki training, while examining how they have been interpreted, adapted, and transformed as they moved across cultures.

Through this Cross-Cultural Energy Work series we open the door to important conversations about how ideas such as the chakra system entered Western new-age philosophy through influences including the Theosophical movement, the writings of Blavatsky, and later interpretations by Carl Jung and others. Understanding this broader history helps us appreciate the difference between traditional teachings and their modern Western adaptations.

Thank you, Liz, for sharing your knowledge, and passion with our community. Your presentation sparked meaningful reflection. The conversation we shared gave us more to consider and additional concepts to explore. I deeply appreciate our time together.

Many Reiki practitioners obtain their certification to practice in environments like hospice centers to bring care and comfort. Hospice centers that I have contacted require Level 1, hospitals typically require Level 2.

This program from the Osher Center appears like it could be something to explore if end-of-life care with Reiki is your calling.

Elevate Your Reiki Practice with Qigong for Health & Meditation

To my fellow Reiki practitioners: how often do you intentionally cultivate and strengthen your own internal energy?

Mikao Usui emphasized Hatsurei Ho, the practice of generating and radiating spiritual energy. But to truly deepen our capacity as clear and grounded channels, we must also actively build and refine our own internal reservoir, the Tanden/Dantian.

This Sunday, my teacher, Chris Himmel, is offering a seminar that beautifully complements the meditative foundations of the Usui Reiki lineage:

Qigong for Health and Meditation
📅 This Sunday
⏰ 10:00am – 12:00pm
📍 Internal Arts New England
💵 Cost: $40

This seminar explores profound internal mechanics that directly mirror and amplify the work we do in Hatsurei Ho:

Embryonic Breathing
A deep foundational practice that draws awareness directly into the lower Tanden/Dantian. It trains the mind to root deeply and cultivate stillness, echoing the same inward focus developed through Joshin Kokyu Ho.

Small Circulation (Microcosmic Orbit)
This practice refines and circulates energy up the spine and down the front of the body. For a practitioner, clearing and opening these primary energetic pathways is like upgrading the wiring in a house, helping create a more open, refined, and resilient energetic system.

Fundamental Qigong Set by Jesse Tsao
A beautifully structured, fluid movement set designed to release physical tension and energetic stagnation, preparing the body and mind for deeper meditation and energetic sensitivity.

When we intentionally build our own Ki/Qi through traditional internal arts, Hatsurei Ho evolves from a simple daily ritual into a deeply embodied and highly energized experience.

This seminar is truly an investment in yourself and your practice. These internal tools are invaluable, and spaces are limited. Register via the event link.

This Sunday, we complete our Cross-Cultural Energy Work 3-week series with Liz Himmel (Instagram: ), who will guide us into an exploration of Raja Yoga, Ayurveda, and the Chakra System. Together, we’ll examine how these traditions approach consciousness, energetic balance, embodiment, and self-cultivation, while continuing our larger conversation on how diverse healing systems interpret the movement and transformation of energy within the human experience.

Registration is still open for this stand-alone seminar.

Sunday, May 24
10:00 - 12:00 pm
Online Only via Zoom (link is sent upon registration)

As we transition into this next layer of study, I also want to reflect on the depth and beauty of our class this past Sunday.

We were deeply honored to welcome Lynne Deschenes from The Access Clinic for Wellness as our guest speaker for our second Cross-Cultural Energy Work session. Lynne offered a profoundly insightful perspective into the energetic principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, bringing not only extensive knowledge of TCM theory, but also the grounded wisdom that comes from years of clinical experience working directly with patients.

What made Lynne’s presentation especially impactful was her ability to connect energetic concepts to practical application in a way that felt both accessible and deeply meaningful. Discussions surrounding Qi, meridians, energetic imbalances, and patterns within the body helped illuminate how these systems function not simply as abstract philosophy, but as living frameworks rooted in observation, relationship, and healing.

These conversations continue to reinforce one of the central intentions of this program: to respectfully explore where traditions intersect, where they differ, and how each system offers its own unique lens into the human condition. By studying these modalities side by side, we begin developing a richer and more nuanced understanding of energy work as a whole.

Deep gratitude again to Lynne for sharing her time, wisdom, and lived experience with us. We look forward to continuing this exploration together with Liz on Sunday. 🙇🏻‍♀️
