Meet our incredible EMDR provider, Megan Segel!

Megan is not only a naturally gifted and talented clinician, but she’s also incredibly dedicated to her continuing education and has been known to listen to EMDR textbooks in her free time to keep her skills sharp. She comes from a background in chronic pain and trauma and supports her clients consistently in reaching adaptive resolution by helping them reduce emotional distress and physiological arousal.

When she’s not working with clients, Megan also runs a sugar glider sanctuary and can often be found diving into forensic genealogy.

Megan sees clients via Telehealth only and is available for appointments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

We all have a stress thermostat — a baseline level of stress our nervous system has learned to carry.

For a lot of us, that baseline got set high before we had any say in it. Constant stress growing up. Rest that never felt safe. “Handling it” being the only option on the table.

So the nervous system adapted. It learned to run hot. And now small things feel catastrophic, exhaustion doesn’t lead to rest, and stillness somehow makes everything worse.

That’s not a flaw. That’s a pattern. And patterns can change.

The thermostat can be reset — not with a weekend off, but with the slower, steadier work of teaching your nervous system it’s actually safe to come down.

That’s the work we do here. 💙

Not all stress is the same.
Positive stress is the kind that sharpens you — a deadline that gets you focused, a challenge that stretches you in a good way. It’s short-lived and it moves through.
Tolerable stress is harder. Loss. Conflict. Big transitions. It can shake you — but with enough support and time, your nervous system finds its way back.
Toxic stress is different. It’s chronic, overwhelming, and often happens without enough support to buffer it. Over time, it doesn’t just affect your mood — it affects your body, your relationships, your baseline.
Knowing which kind you’re carrying matters.
Because “just push through it” is decent advice for one of these — and genuinely harmful for the other two.
If you’ve been running on stress for a while and it’s starting to cost you, that’s worth paying attention to.

Your brain has a smoke detector. 🔥
It’s called the amygdala — and its only job is to scan for danger and sound the alarm.
The problem? It can’t always tell the difference between a real threat and a hard conversation. A tight deadline. An unanswered text.
So the alarm goes off anyway.

Meet the founder behind Tacoma Wellness Collective.

Mary Allison Jensen, LICSW created Tacoma Wellness Collective to provide our community with the type of mental health practice we deserve - one that’s rooted in ethical, sustainable care for both clients and clinicians. As a Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional, Mary Allison wanted to build a practice where therapists could grow without burning out and where clients receive support from professionals who are grounded, well-resourced, and embodying what they teach.

In addition to her responsibilities at TWC, Mary Allison is the mom of teens in a busy blended family, an accomplished speaker, and the author of a guided journal called Align With Joy. If you’d like to learn more about Mary Allison’s work outside of TWC, you can find her on instagram
