Being mistaken for a stranger by someone you love can be deeply painful. đź’ś

This may be caused by Capgras syndrome, a delusion that can occur in Lewy body dementia where your loved one may see you as an imposter. Staying calm, avoiding arguments, and offering gentle reassurance may help.

Have you experienced this with your loved one?

Dementia can be a difficult thing to explain to younger children.

This lovely book will make the job much easier.

Written specifically about Lewy body dementia rather than a generic take on the umbrella condition, we think makes it rather special.

The BRIDGES for Dementia Network+ is a national research initiative bringing together people with lived experience of dementia, researchers, designers, and health professionals.

Their annual conference is open to researchers, universities, industry, charities, and people with lived experience of dementia.

"Nowadays, my mother drifts from being asleep, to being awake, but rarely opens her eyes and is almost completely bed bound. But when she does open her eyes and I get that tiny flicker of recognition that I am with her, it fills me with so much love and joy."

"Just being with her is what I love, and when words cannot be said, who needs words when just being there and holding a hand suffices? So much can be conveyed by a squeeze of a hand and often her tight grip is reassurance of everything I need to feel."

Katrina shares how becoming a Dementia Friend has helped in her journey supporting her mother, and how simple moments like the squeeze of a hand can mean the world: http://spkl.io/61807yn1I

Watching Andy Burnham step through the doors of Number 10 as our new Prime Minister yesterday, from our headquarters in his constituency, we were moved that he chose to spotlight dementia.

He shared that his father who is living with dementia would probably never know that he has become the leader of his party and his country.

Many of us recognise that heartbreaking desire to be able to tell our parents or loved ones something you are proud of and have them understand or remember when they find it difficult or impossible.

He also remarked recently: "If there's one area I'm going to expend quite a lot of political capital, it's going to be on social care.”

Dementia in its many forms is the UK’s leading cause of death and a massive public health crisis.

These comments have given us sincere hope that there may be a serious opportunity to tackle dementia and all the associated unpaid care and treatment issues by those with the power to effect change.
