Planting Tables planning has officially begun. 🌿

Thanksgiving.
Christmas.
Two more opportunities to create spaces where youth & young adults can experience belonging, connection, beauty, and the goodness of God.

I’ve been a little quiet over here lately because, honestly, I’ve been tired. 😅
But the work never really stopped.

And now… we’re back at the table.

There’s something special about the beginning of a gathering. Before the tables are decorated. Before the food is prepared. Before anyone walks through the door.

There is simply a vision, a blank space, and a willingness to begin.

So let me ask you:
What is one thing that makes a gathering feel like home to you?

A meal?
Music?
Laughter?
Being welcomed by name?
A beautiful space?
Good conversation?

Tell me yours in the comments. 👇🏾

LOOK WHAT YOUR YES BECAME: WELCOME

I’m a firm believer that God is in the details.

He’s in the interweaving of our story and in our hearts.

He knows each of us intimately.

He knows what will catch our gaze.

When I think about the impact of being welcomed,

I think about the outward expression of a welcome starting in the heart of the person whose setting the atmosphere.

My heart is to welcome youth in a way that reflects Gods heart for them first.

I couldn’t have done this without the tables that beautifully held conversations and a feast.

I couldn’t have expressed fully that every youth belonged without the banners that were made with love and hung with truth !

Mason jars that would soon become symbols of creativity and revelation.

A popcorn machine that became a staple of enjoyment and offering. Someone giving what they had because they responded to a need.

Like the poor widow in the Bible who had her oil multiplied.

Individually they looked like ordinary donations, but together they became the language of welcome.

A welcome is more than just a word.

It’s an expression of acceptance and delight.

It says I knew you were coming

I prepared for your arrival

And

It is good to have you come !

Thank you for every donation, sponsorship and gift that helped me WELCOME each guest who walked in.

LOOK WHAT YOUR YES BECAME: The Foundation 🏠

Every home has a foundation.

A steady structure that is deeply planted and rooted so that everything built upon it can stand.

Without a solid foundation, homes crumble.

And the people who are deeply desiring covering are left without somewhere to safely rest and blossom.

Without somewhere to settle.

Without somewhere to experience relief.

Often the unseen pillar, holding everything we have our feet tethered to UP.

Thank you for being foundations both individually and collectively in the way that you gave and contributed to the vision of Planting Tables 4th of July but also to every heart in the room who didn’t have to worry about feeling unstable.

They got to walk into the room and feel held, helped and healed all because of your yes.

Thank you all dearly 🥹❤️ I am forever grateful

“LOOK WHAT YOUR YES BECAME: SWEETNESS” 🥧🍬

When I was searching for small businesses to partner with me to make Planting Tables possible, my heart was to find people who were not only passionate about their craft but also passionate about people and community. It’s hard to find owners who create an atmosphere within their workplace that feels like home for those who walk through the door but also for those who make the environment anchored to the door feel calm, settled and beautiful.

But that’s exactly what Made. by Lia Craft Bakery did! Each interaction, whether by phone leading up to the gathering or in person , enveloped a sense of care and intentionality.

The passion in the heart of the bakers was expressed beautifully through the pastries our youth and young adults got to enjoy.

Lia your yes became sweetness in a room full of individuals who are used to bracing from the harshness of this world.

Thank you dearly for your imprint. ❤️

“This Room Carried Something It Didn’t Have Before We Walked In.”

When you walk into a room , the presence you bring is what makes the space feel lived in.

A room can be filled but not occupied.

Furniture does not make a room.

Aesthetics does not make a room.

Walls and windows do not make a room.

People make a room.

That is what was felt at Planting Tables 4th of July.

Youth , children, families and volunteers walked into a space that didn’t bare an address that belonged to them.

They walked into a space where they hadn’t spent time placing pictures on the wall or sheets on a bed.

Yet comfort was deeply experienced.

Memories were made.

Presence was deeply tangible.

I saw them wander about freely.

Not because they were lost, but because they felt safe.

I saw their shoulders drop as they let their guard down.

I saw grown youth lean into play like little children.

I saw them fill their bellies without asking for permission.

Planting Tables 4th of July is just 8 days away and my heart is in anticipation of the fun that will be had and the hearts that will be held. If you know of any youth or young adults between the ages of 14-25 who needs a table for the holidays please reach out to me and RSVP below.

There’s something healing about slowing down long enough to sit around a table together.

This 4th of July, while so much of the world is rushing, performing, consuming, and filling every second… Planting Tables is creating space to simply be.

To eat slowly.
To laugh deeply.
To let the kids run barefoot.
To have conversations that feel like exhaling.
To remember what connection feels like again.

Planting Tables was born from the belief that people are starving for belonging, even in rooms full of people.

And sometimes healing begins with something as simple as:
“Come sit with us.”

Whether you come with friends, your children, your spouse, or by yourself — there is a seat for you.

✨ Family-style dinner
✨ Intentional conversation
✨ Space to connect
✨ A slower, softer kind of gathering

If your nervous system has been craving gentleness, community, and rest… this table may be for you. 🤍

Yesterday I walked into a coffee shop expecting to talk about partnership.

I walked out reminded that healing almost always begins with people who are willing to be human first.

Before we talked about nonprofits…
Before we talked about sponsorships…
Before we talked about ideas…

We laughed.

We talked about our short hair journeys, all the awkward stages, the freedom that came with it, and the little things that somehow make strangers feel familiar.

Then the conversation slowly became something deeper.

We talked about purpose.
About faith.
About loving our neighbors.
About the stories that shape us.
About why people build the things they build.

One thing I’ve been noticing lately is that every room God has been leading me into has had the same thread running through it.

People.

Not people trying to impress one another.
Not people trying to get something from one another.

Just people willing to sit across the table and share their hearts.

That’s exactly how Home For Your Heart was born.

Not from a business plan.

But from a little girl who spent years wondering what it felt like to belong… and a God who has been answering that question one relationship at a time.

Every meeting lately has reminded me that the mission isn’t simply to host gatherings.

It’s to create spaces where people remember what it feels like to be seen.

To be known.

To laugh.

To cry.

To tell their story without feeling like they have to edit it.

Yesterday, I experienced that myself.

Thank you, Carrie, for welcoming me with such warmth, for sharing your heart, and for reminding me that if we’re going to be the hands and feet of Jesus, it begins with us first.

It begins with slowing down long enough to truly see one another.

To behold one another’s stories without looking away.

To make space for laughter, tears, hope, and honesty.

That’s what we did yesterday.

Before we can partner to love a community well, we have to first practice loving the person sitting across from us. I believe that’s where the Kingdom is built—not simply through organizations working together, but through people choosing to see one another with the compassion and presence of Christ.

I left yesterday with more than ideas.

I left reminded that this is how the Kingdom grows.

I left grateful.

Grateful for the conversation.
Grateful for the connection.

And grateful that God keeps reminding me that Home For Your Heart was never just about building a nonprofit.

It’s about building tables where strangers become family.

When I began dreaming about this year’s Planting Tables gathering, I knew I wanted to recreate some of the simple joys of childhood.

Not because foster youth and young adults need entertainment.

But because many have spent years carrying responsibilities, grief, uncertainty, and burdens that no child should have to carry.

This year’s 4th of July gathering is centered around a Field Day theme—filled with games, bubbles, laughter, ice cream, connection, and moments that invite young people to simply be.

There is something sacred about play.

Something healing about wonder.

Something restorative about laughter.

As we grow older, we often treat childlike things as though they are meant to be left behind. But I have found the opposite to be true.

Play isn’t juvenile.

Wonder isn’t immature.

Joy isn’t something we outgrow.

In many ways, they become even more necessary.

They quiet the mental noise.

They lessen the weight of stress and anxiety.

They remind us that we are more than what we’ve survived.

For a moment, they allow us to set down what we’ve been carrying and experience ourselves outside of our pain.

That is why I was so moved when John, owner of Bubble Bus, donated an industrial-grade bubble machine to Home For Your Heart.

Not because of the machine itself.

But because he understood what we were trying to create.

John immediately connected with the heart behind this work and the importance of creating meaningful experiences for young people. His kindness, generosity, and servant’s heart left a lasting impression on me.

People often think healing only happens in counseling sessions, deep conversations, or life-changing moments.

Sometimes it does.

But sometimes healing looks like laughter echoing across a field.

Sometimes it looks like bubbles floating through the summer air.

Sometimes it looks like a young person remembering what it feels like to simply be a kid again.

John, thank you for believing in this vision and helping us create spaces where youth and young adults can experience belonging, joy, wonder, and rest.

Your generosity is helping create more than an event.

It’s helping create memories that remind young people they are worthy of delight. 💛🌿

Today I had the honor of meeting with members of the Foster & Adoption Care Coalition, and I am still processing the depth of what took place in that room.

I walked in carrying a portfolio.

I walked out carrying something far greater: connection.

For over an hour, I had the opportunity to share my story, the heart behind Home For Your Heart, and the vision that continues to grow through Planting Tables.

What impacted me most wasn’t simply that people listened.

It was how they listened.

There was a presence in the room that is difficult to put into words. Questions were asked with genuine curiosity. Space was made for my voice to breathe. My experiences were not rushed past or reduced to a few talking points. They were met with compassion, thoughtfulness, and respect.

As I shared about belonging, community, foster care, healing, and the vision behind Home For Your Heart, I found myself surrounded by people who care deeply about the youth they serve and who have dedicated their lives to creating pathways of support, connection, and opportunity.

I left inspired by the work they do every day and grateful for every person who took the time to sit at the table with me.

Today’s conversation reminded me that when we have the courage to share our stories, something beautiful happens.

Walls become bridges.

Strangers become connections.

And purpose finds room to grow.

Thank you to Brittany for opening the door and for believing enough in my story to invite me into that space.

And thank you to every staff member, leader, and advocate who welcomed me so warmly today.

Home For Your Heart exists because we believe belonging changes lives.

Today, I experienced that belief firsthand.
