Last week’s question of the week was made into a reel. If you missed it, the question was “Organic or not organic?” This week’s question is following up on that. Due to the fact that it is not always financially practical to purchase everything organic, I like to reference this list from EWG.org that they call the “Dirty Dozen™.” They update the list every year according to their research showing what fruits and vegetables are the most chemically sprayed and therefore are best to buy organically. I like to add corn to their list. It may not be sprayed as much as these, but it is highly GMO! Recently, I read an article that there is a new, potentially more sinister version of GMO. “Embedded in the genome of the corn” ……..”is a genetic sequence encoding a molecule called double-stranded RNA, or dsRNA. Think of dsRNA as a search-and-destroy code for genes: a precisely designed molecular message that, when read by a cell’s machinery, identifies a target gene and shuts it down. The target, in this case, is a gene in the western corn rootworm — a devastating agricultural pest.” ( "The Invisible GMO: How Gene-Silencing Crops Reached Your Plate — and Why No One Told You." Sayer Ji's Substack, 30 May 2026, ayerji.substack.com/p/the-invisible-gmo-how-gene-silencing.)
Why does this matter to humans? We just don’t know yet if this will be able to affect our genetic code in some way as well. I encourage you to read the entire article as it was fascinating to me.
