Introducing Marian Dignan, Primary Therapist on the South Campus.

"Marian is our Son’s therapist and since day 1 she has been his advocate, his cheerleader and his no nonsense reality check. Our son has not had the greatest experience with therapist in general and considering Marian’s age, we were apprehensive about her ability to connect with our son and help him embrace the importance of therapy as part of his healing journey. Marian shocked us in all the positive ways. Our son has opened up to her and in turn has shown progress that we have only dreamed about in the last few years. In addition to her fantastic work with him, she then stepped up and stayed on top of insurance’s peer to peer interview option. I am not sure what she told the insurance but she called us to give us super high level summary of how it went and even made the comment that the person she spoke to thanked her for the additional context as this was helpful to understand why he needs to remain at the level of care he is at. I am sure you have heard that after the peer to peer our son has been authorized another 28 days of care which is amazing!!!! She has gone above and beyond and we find her to be an excellent asset to Telos! You are lucky to have her on your staff.".

This week, our Executive Director rolled up his sleeves and joined one of our apartments for a hands-on cooking lesson — and it turned into so much more than a meal.

For students building independence, cooking is life skills in action: patience, following directions, problem-solving when something doesn’t go as planned, and the satisfaction of sitting down to something they made themselves. Having a Clinical Director in the kitchen alongside them added another layer — modeling collaboration, celebrating small wins, and showing students that the people guiding their treatment are invested in their everyday growth, not just their therapy sessions.

It’s a small moment, but it says a lot: growth happens everywhere here, not just in the therapy room.

That’s the Telos way.

For teens in treatment, “normal” can feel like something they’ve lost. That’s why real-world experience is such a core part of Telos U.

Marley, a recent high school graduate and alumnus of Telos U, recently shared what it’s meant to hold down a job while here — and to enroll in a UVU college class. With guidance from our life coaches, students learn how to navigate real workplace moments: how to talk to a boss, how to handle friction on the job, even when to ask for support. It’s trial and error, with someone in their corner the whole way.

For this student, having a job and taking a college class hasn’t just built skills — it’s given them a taste of the life they’re working toward. A sense of identity outside of “being in treatment.” Proof that growth and normalcy can coexist.

When Everything Fell Apart, We Found Each Other

Sometimes the greatest transformations come from the moments we never would have chosen. Looking back on years of struggle, one father shares the thing he is most grateful for, not just that his son survived, but that their family became more connected, stronger, and more united than he ever imagined possible. Change can be painful, but it can also open the door to healing, growth, and hope.

We asked an alumni parent a question we ask so many families as they finish the program: What's the number one thing you learned at Telos?

Families come to Telos because their child is struggling, and understandably, the focus starts there. But real, lasting change rarely happens in just one direction. While a student is doing the hard work of therapy, building new skills, and finding their footing, parents are doing their own work too — learning to sit with discomfort instead of rushing to fix it, learning new language for old conflicts, learning to set boundaries without guilt, and learning to trust a process bigger than any single moment.

By the time a student comes home, the family they're returning to isn't the same family they left. Parents have grown alongside their kids. Siblings have found new ways to relate to one another. The whole system has shifted — not just the person who was struggling the most.

That's why we say healing at Telos isn't something that happens to a student while the rest of the family watches from the sidelines. It happens together, or it doesn't fully happen at all. The family that reunites is stronger not because the hard parts disappeared, but because everyone did their part to grow through them.

We Thought We Were Losing Our Son: A Father's Story of Hope, Healing & Second Chances

When Dan Jones' teenage son began spiraling into addiction, school struggles, and dangerous behaviors, his family found themselves facing impossible decisions no parent wants to make. In this deeply honest conversation, Dan shares the emotional journey of letting go, embracing both love and accountability, and discovering that healing is rarely a straight line. His story is a powerful reminder that our greatest setbacks often become the moments that shape our greatest growth. If you're a parent feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, or unsure of what to do next, this episode offers encouragement, perspective, and hope through residential care.
