It's myth buster Monday, and we're here to tell you that custom made orthotics will not make your feet weaker!

Think of orthotics like glasses: they don't replace the function of your eyes or see for you, they just help your eyes function more efficiently. Similarly, orthotics don't make your feet lazy or walk for you; they help position your feet and lower body in a way that can improve how forces are distributed through the kinetic chain.

Because the feet are the foundation of our bodies, issues at the foot can influence the ankles, knees, hips, pelvis, and even the back. Orthotics can help reduce unnecessary stress and compensation patterns by improving alignment and mechanics.

That said, orthotics are not a replacement for strength, mobility, balance, or exercise. They help create a better environment for movement, but your muscles still need the strength and capacity to do their job.

The most effective approach is often a combination of both orthotics to support mechanics and load distribution and exercise to build strength and movement capacity.

Like many things in life, approaching a biomechanical issue from a few different angles produces the best results.
