💕🧘🏻‍♀️🙏🏻 Today, whenever you start to notice that things feel too much, remember to 🛑
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This practice can be so helpful to remind you to pause and to choose how you want to respond.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To shift from reacting on auto-pilot to making a conscious choice on how we respond to what is going on. Whether it's something that someone said, something that's happening around us, or something that's going on inside. You have the choice in how you want to be. And this practice can help you to get there. 💕🧘🏻‍♀️🙏🏻

In life we often have to make choices - sometimes in difficult situations. In this post I show you how to tune inwards to make choices with intention using some of the skills I teach my students inside my program STOP the Panic
Life Choices: How to Make Choices With Intention

Life is full of choices. We don't always realize this but we get to CHOOSE how we respond to things in life. Choosing with intention means that we make a choice on purpose. Instead of mindlessly going through life doing the same thing over and over again you tune inwards and make a CHOICE in

Today would have been my dad's 84th birthday.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Six years have passed since we lost him, and there are still moments when I find myself wishing I could tell him about something that happened or ask him a question only he would know the answer to.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When my dad was younger, he travelled through Italy. He visited places like the Trevi Fountain and the Leaning Tower of Pisa—places that, for years, existed only through the slides he took with his camera.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last year, for my mom's 80th birthday, we took the trip she'd always dreamed of and traveled to Italy together. Standing in those same places my dad once stood felt incredibly special. It was as though, somehow, we were following in his footsteps.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Before I left, I tucked something meaningful into my suitcase: the little compass keychain my dad gave me when I first moved out on my own. He told me it was so I could always find my way home.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That little compass has been with me through so many chapters of my life, and carrying it through Italy felt like bringing a piece of him along for the journey.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Grief has a funny way of changing over the years. It never really disappears—it just learns to coexist with gratitude.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today I'm remembering my dad, celebrating the adventures he had, the quiet ways he continues to travel with me, and feeling incredibly thankful that Mom and I had the chance to walk streets that meant something to him.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Happy 84th birthday, Dad. ❤️ I hope you'd be smiling knowing your compass found its way back to Italy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now I'm going to go celebrate with a Chocolate Frosty from Wendy's - his favourite.

Mindful eating isn't about counting calories or following perfect nutrition rules. It's about slowing down long enough to actually experience the food in front of you.

Today that looked like fresh spinach, sweet peaches, juicy strawberries, grilled chicken, and crunchy walnuts. A simple summer salad that nourished both my body and my mind.

And sometimes it's pizza.
Or steak and potatoes.
Or my mom's yummy spaghetti and meatballs.

Mindul eating is about tuning into your body, seeing what it wants, and actually listening to it.

When we slow down we can actually hear what we need.

When we rush through meals, we often miss the signals our bodies are sending us. Hunger. Fullness. Satisfaction. Gratitude.

One of the greatest gifts mindfulness has given me is the ability to pause and be present—even during something as ordinary as lunch.

So today, before your next bite, take a moment to notice:
✨ The colours on your plate
✨ The different textures
✨ The flavours
✨ How your body feels

Sometimes mindfulness isn't found on a meditation cushion. Sometimes it's found in a summer salad.

What is one thing you can notice about your next meal?

Last year I got reading glasses for my birthday. This year I pulled something in my back sneezing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Between the occasional hot flash and still getting zits the glow-up is clearly progressing beautifully. 😂
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Honestly, as a kid, I thought getting older would feel more glamorous. Instead, I’m making strange noises when I stand up and getting excited about comfortable shoes. And naps, 😂
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But here’s what I’ve learned after doing a whole ton of inner work:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
45 isn’t about having it all figured out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s about finally being okay with not having it all figured out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s saying yes to new experiences, showing up to events where you don’t know anyone, and trusting yourself enough to handle whatever happens next.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s rebuilding your life over again from scratch after healing from some significant trauma.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s caring less about what people think and more about how you feel.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s realizing that confidence isn’t walking into a room and knowing everyone.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s walking into a room knowing you’ll be okay even if you know no one.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And honestly? That’s a pretty great trade for the occasional back spasm.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mindfulness has taught me that life doesn’t happen when we’re comfortable.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It happens when we’re present.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if being present occasionally requires a heating pad afterward, so be it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ This is 45.

This post-workout selfie represents so much more than a workout.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One thing they don’t tell you about brain injury recovery is that you don’t just recover.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You rebuild.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You rebuild your body when it no longer works the way it once did.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You rebuild your brain when simple tasks suddenly feel complicated.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You rebuild your work and career when your capacity changes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You rebuild relationships as you learn who can meet you where you are.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You rebuild your confidence after spending so much time feeling like a stranger in your own life.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And perhaps hardest of all, you rebuild your relationship with yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For a long time, I fought against the reality of what had happened to me. I wanted my old life back. I wanted my old brain back. I wanted things to be the way they were before.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But mindfulness taught me something I desperately needed to learn:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Acceptance is not giving up.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Acceptance is acknowledging what is true right now so you can stop spending all your energy fighting reality and start using that energy to move forward.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It didn’t make recovery easy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It didn’t erase the grief.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But it helped me meet each challenge with a little more compassion and a little less resistance.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Recovery isn’t about becoming who you were before.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s about discovering who you can become now.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And some days, that journey looks like nothing more glamorous than a sweaty post-workout selfie and a quiet moment of gratitude for how far you’ve come. ❤️

I went to a book club recently where I didn’t know a single person.

No familiar faces. No safety net. No “I’ll just stay quiet in the corner” escape plan.

Now, I’ve been to book clubs before, heck I was hit by a bus coming home from a book club event.

But that was a typical book club where speaking was optional and this wasn’t your run of the mill book club event.

This was a mix and mingle + silent reading book club.

And there was a time in my life that an event like this would have sent me into an anxiety spiral. Just from reading about it, forget attending the event. (IYKYK)

✨ Either I would have wanted to sign up but didn’t because I chickened out.

✨ Or I would have signed up and bailed.

✨ Or I would have signed up, went, and spent the whole time overthinking every sentence I said, waiting for the moment I could leave without it being weird.

But this time felt different.

Because not only was I not nervous but I felt completely calm and at ease.

Even though I had no idea how the event was going to go, what the event would be like and who the organizers were. And as someone with lifelong anxiety I would have needed to know all the details + have a safe person with me to even think about going.

These days I no longer let my nervousness make decisions for me. 💪🙌🏻

So, I showed up. I stayed. And I actually spoke to several people I had never met before. And I will absolutely go back next time.

Mindfulness didn’t make me a different person. It helped me stop abandoning myself in moments like these so that I can actually live the life I’ve always thought was out of reach. 🙏🏻💕🧘🏻‍♀️
