Hey Kindness Community 🙌

Welcome to April 🌞 one of my favourite months. It’s a month full of birthdays in my little world (my son and husband included), but it’s also something deeply important to me and to so many of us here…

🧡 It’s FND Awareness Month. 💙

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a misunderstood, complex, and dynamic neurological disability.

No two people experience it the same way. Symptoms can shift, fluctuate, and impact every part of daily life and yet, FND is still one of the most overlooked conditions in the neurological world.

Right now, there is no medication and no cure for FND.

But there is a community.
There is strength.
There is lived experience.
There is a collective voice that refuses to be ignored.

This month, we stand together sharing stories, raising awareness, educating with compassion, and reminding the world that FND is real, valid, and deserving of understanding and support.

🧡 To everyone living with FND: I see you.
🧡 To carers, families, and friends: thank you for standing beside us.
🧡 To our community: let’s make this month loud, kind, and impossible to overlook.

Here’s to April a month of awareness, connection, and being heard.

SYRINGOMYELIA & CHIARI MALFORMATION AWARENESS

Two structural neurological conditions that deserve far more understanding than they receive.

These conditions aren’t “just headaches,” “just pain,” or “just stress.” They are real, complex disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, and the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). And for many of us, they shape daily life in ways that aren’t always visible.

🧠 What is Chiari Malformation?
Chiari occurs when the lower part of the brain (the cerebellar tonsils) descends into the spinal canal, disrupting CSF flow and compressing neurological structures.

Common symptoms include:
• Severe head & neck pain
• Dizziness & balance issues
• Numbness & tingling
• Vision or swallowing difficulties
• Tinnitus
• Fatigue & cognitive fog

Chiari is structural, often present from birth, and absolutely not caused by lifestyle.

đź’§ What is Syringomyelia?
Syringomyelia is when a fluid‑filled cyst (syrinx) forms inside the spinal cord.
Over time, it can stretch and damage the cord, leading to:

• Loss of sensation (especially temperature)
• Muscle weakness or wasting
• Chronic pain
• Stiffness or spasticity
• Loss of reflexes
• Bladder/bowel changes

This is a CSF flow disorder, not “just back pain.”

đź”— How They Connect
Chiari Malformation is one of the most common causes of Syringomyelia.
When Chiari blocks CSF flow, pressure builds and CSF can be forced into the spinal cord, forming a syrinx.

đź©» Diagnosis Matters
• MRI of brain & spine
• Cine MRI to assess CSF flow
• Neurological examination

Early detection can prevent progression.

đź›  Treatment Options
Treatment varies by person and severity, and may include:
• Monitoring
• Pain & symptom management
• Physical therapy
• Surgical decompression to restore CSF flow
• Rarely: syrinx shunting

Everyone deserves to be taken seriously.

đź’ś Living With These Conditions
Invisible doesn’t mean imaginary.
Symptoms fluctuate.
Pain is real.
Fatigue is real.
Neurological changes are real.

People living with Chiari and Syringomyelia show extraordinary resilience every single day.

📣 Why Awareness Matters
Because too many people are misdiagnosed.
Because symptoms are dismissed as “anxiety.”
Because early recognition changes lives.
Because understanding builds compassion, accessibility, and support.

The Blue Badge scheme allows people with severe mobility problems and those with certain other disabilities or health conditions to park close to places they wish to visit.

Many people find that having a Blue Badge makes everyday journeys a little bit easier. It can reduce the physical strain of walking long distances and provide reassurance when travelling to appointments, shops, or social activities.

If you would like to know more about the scheme, we’ve put together lots of information about who can apply, what you’ll need, how to show proof of eligibility, and what to do if you need to appeal.

Visit our website for further guidance.

Hey Kindness Community 🫶Behind the scenes, something incredible is taking shape…

I’ve been quietly working away with some amazing healthcare professionals, industry specialists, and vital support services and it finally feels like the next chapter of this journey is becoming real.

There’s nothing quite like watching long‑term goals shift from “one day” to “it’s happening.” I’m excited, grateful, and honestly a little in awe of what’s unfolding.

This is just the beginning.
Watch this space big things are coming.

And a gentle reminder for anyone building something meaningful

Protect your ideas. Share your knowledge with those who uplift, support, and walk beside you… not with those who drain your energy or take without giving back. Your vision deserves safe hands. 💛

UK HOUSING CRISIS: WHEELCHAIR USERS LEFT BEHIND

There is a severe shortage of fully wheelchair-accessible homes in the UK. Disabled people are being denied safe, suitable, and dignified housing because developers aren’t required to build homes that meet their needs.

📊 The facts:

🏠 Only 13% of homes in England meet all 4 basic accessibility criteria

🏗️ Just 20% of planning authorities require wheelchair-accessible homes in new builds

🧑‍🦽 Over 1.2 million wheelchair users in the UK and up to 885,000 excluded from housing that meets their needs

🛑 Many live in homes they can’t safely use
🛑 Some are stuck in hospital or care settings
🛑 Others are excluded from independence entirely

This is a preventable crisis. Accessible housing is not a luxury, it’s a human right.

We’re calling on the UK Government to mandate a minimum percentage of fully wheelchair-accessible homes in every new development.

Sunday Reset for Soft Hearts & Tired Nervous Systems

Today isn’t about productivity.
It’s about permission to slow down, to breathe, to come back home to yourself.

If you’re resetting with me, here’s our gentle plan for the day:

Our Soft Sunday Reset

• Slow start: whatever pace your body chooses is the right one
• Tiny tidy: 5–10 minutes max — we’re not proving anything
• Body check‑in: stretch, shake it out, or simply place a hand on your chest and breathe
• Mind reset: journal, doodle, stare out the window… all valid
• Three priorities for the week: not a to‑do list, just anchors
• Nourish: drink water, eat something that feels kind
• Rest: the restorative kind, not the guilt‑soaked kind

💛 Today’s reminder:
You don’t need to earn rest.
You don’t need to be “caught up” to start again.
You’re allowed to reset as many times as you need.

If today is your soft restart too, I’m right here with you gently, slowly, together.

Hey Kindness Community let's Welcome, February 🌿

This month, we honour the quiet resilience of the nervous system and the strength held within every vertebra. Let February be a time of gentle alignment mind, body, and spirit.

Whether you're healing, growing, or simply breathing through the day, you are enough. You are whole. You are held.

Let’s move with intention, rest with compassion, and celebrate every spark of progress, no matter how small. Your spine carries your story. Your brain holds your light. And together, they guide you forward.

✨ Rooted. Regulated. Radiant. ✨
