Can you help with this survey on Grief? Your Perspectives on Grief: A National Survey Exploring Grief Experiences on the Island of Ireland

Ulster University, in partnership with The Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF), is inviting adults across the island of Ireland to take part in an anonymous online survey exploring grief experiences after bereavement.

Most people will experience bereavement at some point in their lives, yet we still know too little about how grief is experienced across Ireland, and whether current clinical definitions fully capture what people go through after a significant loss. This survey aims to help address that gap by documenting a wide range of grief experiences following the death that has been most significant for you, whether the loss was recent or long ago.

By taking part, you will help us:
• understand common grief experiences after bereavement;
• learn how grief can affect thoughts, feelings, and day-to-day life; and
• generate findings that can inform bereavement information and service planning in Ireland.

Who can take part?
• You are aged 18 or over;
• You live on the island of Ireland; and
• You have experienced the death of someone you knew (e.g., a partner, parent, child, relative, or close friend).
What does taking part involve?
• It is an anonymous online questionnaire (no names or contact details are collected).
• It takes approximately 20–25 minutes to complete.
• All questions are optional — you can skip any question and you can stop at any time.

You can complete the survey at this link -

“This is our health” is a new public engagement programme led by the Department of Health NI, with support from the Public Health Agency and HSC partners.

Its aim is to listen to people and start developing a shared “health and care promise” - an agreement between the public and the HSC system about how we can all play a bigger part, so people can live healthier lives and services can focus their efforts where they are needed most.

If you have a few minutes, please take part in the short survey below and add your voice to the conversation.

Every voice matters 💜

If you are under 16, you are welcome to complete this survey. It is your choice to take part and your answers are anonymous.

💜☕ A huge thank you ☕💜

A huge thank you to the Parish of Kilrea & Desertoghill for hosting their wonderful Spring Coffee Morning in aid of Cruse Bereavement Support and the White Butterfly Foundation.

We are incredibly grateful to the Parish Council, everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, baked, and helped make the event such a success. Thanks to your generosity, an amazing £650 was raised for Cruse! 🎉👏

This fantastic donation will help us continue providing vital bereavement support to people when they need it most. 💜

Community support like this makes a real difference, and we are so thankful to everyone who came along and supported these two important causes.

Thank you!

We still have some spaces on our workshops - The Impact of Grief on Children and Young People! Do you work with children and young people in the Western Trust area and would like to know more about how grief can affect them? In Northern Ireland 4 children every day lose a parent, totalling around 1,600 per year. This doesn’t include those affected by the death of siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other family or friends. It is vital that children and young people are supported through their bereavement, as losing someone important can deeply affect their emotional, social, and developmental well being. Without understanding, support or guidance, they may struggle to make sense of their feelings, which can lead to confusion, anxiety, or behavioural changes. Support around a child helps them to express their grief safely, understand what they are feeling is normal, and begin to adjust to life without the person who has died. When adults take the time to listen, offer support, develop and maintain stability, children and young people are more likely to build resilience and have healthy coping strategies to enable them to grow around their grief.
We are holding workshops in Irvinestown and Strabane. Please register for a workshop below to learn about the effects of grief on children and young people and how you can positively support children and young people who are bereaved. A CPD certificate will be provided for attendance at the session.

Someone doesn't have to say "I'm struggling with grief" to be having a hard time.
Grief doesn't always sound how people expect it to. Sometimes it's exhaustion, numbness, expectations, pretending, isolation or silence.
If this is where you are, please know you're not alone.
