🦶 Ouch! That First Step in the Morning... Is it Plantar Fasciitis?

Do you dread getting out of bed because of that sharp, stabbing pain in your heel? Or maybe that stiffness returns every time you stand up after sitting for a while?

If this sounds familiar, you’re likely dealing with Plantar Fasciitis.

🔍 What’s Happening Down There?
The plantar fascia is the thick band of tissue that supports your arch. When it’s overworked or overstretched, tiny tears can occur, leading to inflammation and that signature "needle-like" pain.

🌿 How Traditional Chinese Medicine Helps (Without the Drugs!)
While ice packs and rest help, we offer a holistic approach to speed up recovery and manage pain effectively:

Acupuncture for Tension Release: By targeting specific points around the heel and foot (such as Taixi and Kunlun), acupuncture helps physically "unlock" tight fascia and calm the nervous system.

Pricking & Cupping for Deep Healing: For stubborn, chronic pain, we use this specialized technique to "vent" local inflammation. By gently pricking the area and applying suction, we:

Clear Blood Stasis: Remove localized "stagnant" blood that causes throbbing pain.

Decompress the Tissue: Reduce internal pressure on the fascia, providing immediate relief.

Flush with Fresh Blood: Stimulate a rush of oxygenated blood to the site to repair those micro-tears faster.

💡 Pro-Tips for Happy Feet
In addition to treatment, try these at home:
❄️ Frozen Water Bottle Roll: Roll your foot over a frozen bottle for 5 minutes.
🧘 Calf Stretches: Tight calves are often the hidden culprit behind foot pain!
👟 Supportive Footwear: Ditch the flat flip-flops and opt for shoes with solid arch support.

Don’t let foot pain stop you in your tracks! 🏃‍♀️ Ready to walk pain-free again? Experience the natural healing power of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Seeking Water, Roots, and Wellness: Moxibustion, the "Millennial X-Ray"

"You look like a Voodoo Master healing with smoke!" 🧙‍♀️💨
That’s what one of my patients said during a moxibustion session today. I couldn't help but smile. While I don't have a magic wand, I do have something that has been performing "miracles" for thousands of years: Moxa.
🌿 The Ancient Legend: Seeking Water with Fire
In ancient medical and military texts, a story of profound wisdom has been passed down. It is said that when soldiers on the march faced a water shortage in the wild, they would gather aged Moxa (Artemisia) and ignite it in piles on the ground.
Instead of looking at the flames, they observed the smoke. Moxa smoke possesses a unique property: rather than simply drifting upward, it tends to permeate downward. If there was an underground water source, the moisture would cause the smoke to gather and sink at that specific spot. By tracking these subtle movements, soldiers could pinpoint water deep beneath the earth with absolute precision.
🌫️ Moxa Smoke: The "Detective" of Cold and Dampness
This was more than just a survival skill; it revealed the fundamental nature of Moxa—penetration and seeking.
In clinical practice, we often say: "Where the medicine cannot reach and the needle cannot pe*****te, moxibustion must be applied." The thermal energy of burning Moxa acts just like the smoke in the legend:
• Deep Pe*******on: It does not merely heat the surface of the skin. Like a focused beam of light, it pe*****tes deep into the layers of skin and muscle.
• Locating the Ailment: Moxa heat has the innate ability to "hunt" for the problem. It instinctively tracks the areas where "Cold" and "Dampness" (pathogenic factors in TCM) are most concentrated.
• Expelling Pathogens: This vital heat energy forces deep-seated, stubborn cold and dampness out of the body through the pores, restoring balance and vitality.

"Welcome to my 'magic portal.' Let's use some ancient smoke to chase those demons (pain) away!"

Trust is the foundation of healing. ❤️
I was recently reviewing my practice data from the CCATCM Student Clinic, and one number truly stood out: an 85.29% Patient Return Rate.
In the world of acupuncture, this number is more than just a statistic—it represents the trust my patients place in my treatments. Whether we are working on chronic pain management, stress relief, or cosmetic acupuncture, seeing 8 out of 10 patients choose to return to my clinic table is the greatest professional compliment I could receive.
Thank you to my wonderful patients for allowing me to be part of your wellness journey. I look forward to seeing familiar faces and welcoming new ones in future!

Unlocking the Secret to Fading Melasma: The Power of Acupuncture 🌿

Ever feel like your melasma is stubborn, no matter how many creams you apply? In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), these spots are often called "Liver Spots." They are not just skin deep—they are reflections of your internal balance. ⚖️
How does Acupuncture help?
✅ Boost Microcirculation (Local Action): Tiny, painless needles around the spots stimulate blood flow, helping your body naturally "wash away" melanin deposits.
✅ Harmonize Organs (Root Cause): We focus on the Liver, Spleen, and Kidney to balance hormones and smooth "Qi" flow. When your internal "engine" runs well, your skin glows!
✅ Stress Relief: Calm your nervous system to prevent new spots triggered by stress or lack of sleep.

🗓️Your Skin Journey: A standard course of treatment typically consists of 10 sessions. This allows your body to rebalance and your skin cells to naturally renew for lasting results.

Safe & Professional Care All treatments are performed by senior acupuncture interns and are fully supervised by experienced Registered Acupuncturists (R.Ac). You get professional care while supporting the next generation of healers!

📍 Affordable Student Clinic Rates!

More than just skincare—it’s a holistic glow-up. 🌸

From Snow Day Fun to a Chest Cold? Here’s how I helped my son heal naturally. ❄️🛡️

Post Body:
After a blast playing in the snow yesterday, my son came home with a low-grade fever, a runny nose, and that stubborn, heavy phlegm that’s so hard for little ones to cough up. 🤒

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), we call this a "Wind-Cold" invasion. The cold traps the body's energy, causing congestion and discomfort.

As an Acupuncturist, my first instinct isn't the medicine cabinet—it’s my healing kit! I treated him using a combination of Pediatric Tui Na (massage) and Gentle Gua Sha:

✨ Pediatric Tui Na: I used specific massage techniques on his forearms and back to "clear the heat" and support his lungs. It’s gentle, soothing, and kids actually find it very relaxing!
✨ Gentle Gua Sha: Using a smooth tool, I lightly stroked his upper back (near the "Dazhui" point) to release the trapped cold. It creates a light redness—this isn't a bruise, it's the "Sha" (trapped heat) leaving the body.

The result? He slept soundly through the night, his fever broke naturally, and he was able to clear the phlegm this morning. Back to his energetic self! 🏃‍♂️✨

Tired of the cycle of cough syrups and sleepless nights? TCM offers a gentle, drug-free way to boost your child's innate healing power.

📩 DM me if you'd like to learn more about how Pediatric Tui Na and Gua sha can help your little stay healthy this season!

❄️ Shoveling Snow? Don't Let "Winter Stasis" Freeze Your Movement! ❄️

Hi everyone, Claire here! 🇨🇦 As we all know, shoveling snow is the unofficial national sport of Canada. But did you know that the combination of intense muscle contraction and the piercing cold wind is a recipe for what we call "Cold-Damp Bi Syndrome" (寒湿痹阻) in Traditional Chinese Medicine?

When "Cold" enters the body, it causes tissues to contract and freeze—just like pipes in winter. Here are two recent stories from my clinic:

Case 1: The "Locked" Neck 🔒
A patient woke up the day after shoveling, unable to turn their head. Their neck felt completely "locked." After a session of targeted Tuina massage and Cupping therapy to vent the trapped cold and stagnant blood, the transformation was amazing!

As he turned his head freely, he exclaimed:

"Oh my goodness, I can move again! I feel so good, I could even dance!" 💃

Case 2: The "Frozen" Shoulder Thaw ❄️🔥
Another patient with chronic Frozen Shoulder had been doing great after 4 sessions of acupuncture. However, a morning of shoveling brought back the sharp aches.

To combat this, I added Moxibustion (艾灸) to this session. By using the gentle, penetrating heat of the moxa wool, we "thawed" the deep cold in the shoulder joint. The result?

"Claire, this is incredible! Do I even need to book my next session? Look how high I can lift my arm now!"

The Stats: Before this session, her arm was stuck at a 45° angle. After the "thaw," she reached 130° with ease! 🙌

💡 Why does this happen?
When you shovel in the cold, your pores open due to exertion, allowing Cold and Dampness to invade the muscles. Without proper treatment, this "freezes" the flow of Qi and Blood, leading to pain and restricted range of motion.

Claire’s Winter Tip: If you feel stiff or "locked up" after clearing your driveway, don't wait for it to "thaw" on its own.

Acupuncture & Moxa can warm the meridians.

Fire Cupping can pull out the deep-seated cold.

If it hurts more when you move, your meridians are calling for help!

Don't let the snow stop your flow. Book your "Winter Thaw" session today! ⚡

🌿 Stuck in the Winter Slump? Unlock Your Body’s "Eight Gates" with Pai Ba Xu 🌿

Hi everyone, Claire here! As an Acupuncturist, I often see clients this time of year struggling with "Winter Stasis"—feeling heavy, stiff, or mentally fatigued as the Canadian cold settles in. 🇨🇦❄️

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), we talk about the "Ba Xu" (八虚)—eight specific recesses in our joints where "Pathogenic Qi" (Cold, Dampness, and Stagnation) tends to accumulate. Think of them as the "collection basins" for the body’s metabolic waste.

If you can’t make it to my clinic for a session today, you can start "clearing the pipes" at home with this ancient Daoist tapping technique!

📍 The "Ba Xu" Guide for Winter Wellness
The Method: Use a hollow palm (cupping gesture). Tap each area rhythmically 50–100 times. You should feel a warm vibration, not pain!

The Armpits (Axilla) ➔ Heart & Liver Qi

Professional Insight: This area is crucial for moving Liver Qi Stagnation. If you’re feeling "Winter Blues" or seasonal irritability, tapping here helps smooth the flow of emotions.

The Elbow Pits (Cubital Fossa) ➔ Heart & Lung Meridians

Professional Insight: Indoor heating in Canada is incredibly drying! This can lead to "Lung Heat" (dry coughs, itchy skin). Tapping here helps clear that excess heat and supports your respiratory defense.

The Groin (Inguinal Region) ➔ Spleen & Stomach

Professional Insight: The "Spleen" hates dampness. If the winter comfort food has you feeling bloated or heavy, tapping the groin stimulates the Spleen/Stomach meridians to boost metabolism and drain "Dampness."

The Back of the Knees (Popliteal Fossa) ➔ Kidney & Bladder

Professional Insight: The Kidney is the organ of Winter. To combat lower back pain and cold feet, tap here to activate the Bladder meridian—the body’s largest detox channel.

✨ Why I recommend this to my patients:
✅ Boosts Lymphatic Drainage: Perfect for those sedentary snow days.
✅ Warms the Interior: Naturally raises your basal body temperature.
✅ Regulates the Spirit: A simple 5-minute ritual to ground yourself during the busy week.

💡 Claire’s Clinical Tip: After tapping, you might see some light redness (Sha)—this is a good sign of blood coming to the surface! Always follow up with a glass of warm water to help your body process the released "waste."

If you experience significant pain in a specific area after practicing, it may indicate a deep meridian blockage. In such cases, I recommend booking a comprehensive assessment at my clinic so we can address the root cause together.

✨ A Symphony of Balance: Celebrating Laba Festival with this big snow day ✨

Hello neighbors and friends! Today, January 26th, marks the Laba Festival (腊八节) in the lunar calendar. In my family, this day is all about a warm, steaming bowl of Laba Porridge—a tradition that perfectly blends nutrition with ancient wisdom.

As an Acupuncturist, I see this porridge as more than just a meal; it is a "Symphony of the Five Elements." Each ingredient is chosen to balance the body’s energy systems:

🔴 RED (Fire): Red Beans & Goji Berries to nourish the Heart and calm the spirit.
🟡 YELLOW (Earth): Millet & Peanuts to support the Spleen and boost digestion.
⚪ WHITE (Metal): Lotus Seeds & Coix Seeds to strengthen the Lungs.
⚫ BLACK (Water): Black Beans & Walnuts to support Kidney vitality.
🟢 GREEN (Wood): Mung Beans to help the Liver detoxify.

Heritage in Every Spoonful 🥣 Growing up in a TCM family in China, I learned early on that health is about harmony—whether through the food we eat or the needles I use in my practice. Today, as I complete my clinical internship at CCATCM, I feel so proud to bring these "blood-deep" traditions to our beautiful community here in Bedford.

I believe that true wellness comes from combining this ancestral wisdom with modern professional care.

Looking for a Wellness Partner? 🤝 I am currently seeking opportunities to join a local clinic or wellness center as an Acupuncturist (graduating Aug 2026). If you are looking for a practitioner who is:
✅ Rooted in TCM heritage
✅ Professionally trained in Canada
✅ Trilingual (English, Mandarin, French B2) ...

I would love to chat!

Wishing you all a warm and healthy Laba Festival. Let's embrace the winter with balance and vitality! 🌿✨
