Sentencing Update 🚨⚖️

Today, Vincent Deleon was sentenced to the maximum punishment allowed under the law for the kidnapping and r**e of a woman he abducted from the In-Shape parking lot on Coffee Road in Bakersfield. Deleon received multiple consecutive life sentences totaling 139 years to life, plus 90 years.

In April of 2026, a Kern County Jury convicted Deleon of charges include r**e, oral copulation by force, so**my, r**e with a foreign object, carjacking, kidnapping, robbery, conspiracy, dissuading a witness, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and being a felon with a firearm.

The case was tried by DA Cynthia Zimmer and Deputy DA Cyrus Shahbazian.

The conviction stems from an incident that occurred on December 15, 2023, when the victim was leaving the In-Shape gym on Coffee Road. As she got into her car in the parking lot, Deleon, a complete stranger, wearing a mask, gloves, and armed with a firearm, opened the driver’s door, pointed his firearm at her head and demanded that she move to the front passenger seat. Deleon then kidnapped the victim and drove her car to two banks where he demanded the victim to withdraw money using her debit card from the drive-through ATM. After obtaining $500, Deleon drove the victim, while repeatedly threatening to kill her, to various locations in rural Kern County. Defendant Deleon backed her car into a remote orange orchard off Maricopa Highway where he forcibly r**ed, sodomized, and orally copulated her against her will. Afterward, he drove the victim to the Vallarta Supermarket on Panama Lane and dropped her off, after threating to kill her and her family if she reported the crime. Deleon then used the victim’s debit card to buy himself clothing. Within two hours, Bakersfield Police located the defendant driving the victim’s car. He led police on a high-speed chase before crashing the vehicle and fleeing on foot. He was apprehended in an alley in East Bakersfield.

Deleon, a career criminal, will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, educate our community, and take action to protect older adults from abuse and neglect. 🎗️

Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, s*xual, and financial abuse, as well as neglect, self-neglect, and abandonment. Many older adults are especially vulnerable and may be unable to recognize or report the mistreatment they experience.

The Kern County Family Justice Center is also available to assist older adults with services such as restraining orders, reporting to law enforcement, referrals for in-home supportive services, and other resources designed to help individuals regain safety and stability.

Today, a Kern County jury convicted Defendant Pablo Garcia Perez, age 31, of six different felony counts including:
• Forcible So**my of a Victim under 14 years of Age
• Aggravated Kidnapping with the intent to R**e
• Exhibiting Harmful Matter to a Minor
• Possession of Child Po*******hy
• Forcible Lewd Touching of a Child
• Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child

Three of the convictions carry mandatory sentences of Life Without the Possibility of Parole (LWOP).

The case was prosecuted by Deputy DA David L. Eller.

On October 12, 2022, the victim reported s*xual abuse by a family member, Perez, that began in 2021. The child reported that Perez would lie to the victim about where he was going to take her, in order to get the child in his car. Perez would subsequently drive her to rural areas surrounding Arvin and would engage in multiple forcible s*x acts with her. Additionally, the victim revealed that Perez had threatened to kidnap her if she refused to engage in s*x acts with him or reported his crimes to her mother or other adults. Perez repeatedly used threats to solicit n**e photographs from the victim, exhibited po*******hy to the victim, and sent inappropriate photos of his genitalia to her via his cell phone.

The subsequent law enforcement investigation and medical examinations confirmed the victim’s report. Additionally, after being confronted with substantial evidence from his own cell phone, Perez admitted to many of the crimes he committed.

DA Zimmer commented; “Perez had access to the victim and exploited that position of trust to isolate the child. Despite being threatened, the victim courageously came forward so that her abuser could be held accountable. The crimes committed against this minor were horrific, and the sentence Perez now faces will reflect the severity of those acts.”

Sentencing is scheduled for June 16, 2026.
