Maybe October is the month you finally make it.

Not because you should be frightened.

Because your health deserves the same attention you give everything else.

Breast awareness isn't about living in fear of cancer. It's about knowing your body, understanding your risk, following appropriate screening recommendations and getting changes checked rather than hoping they'll disappear.

If mammography is recommended by your doctor, Hyperlife's radiology team is here to provide the imaging as part of your care journey.

Don't put your health at the bottom of the list.

It's one of the biggest fears surrounding breast screening.

But an unusual finding on a mammogram does not automatically mean cancer.

Sometimes further imaging is needed to take a closer look. Sometimes additional tests are recommended. And sometimes an area simply needs to be monitored.

The important thing is that an abnormal screening result is the beginning of further investigation, not a diagnosis.

Your mammography report is sent to your referring doctor who will discuss the results and next steps with you.

That's reassuring information to have. But it doesn't mean your risk is zero.

WHO reports that most women diagnosed with breast cancer do not have a known family history of the disease.

That's why breast awareness matters for everyone, not only women who have a relative who has had breast cancer.

Know your history. Know your normal. Follow the screening advice that's right for you.

You're not the only one.

For some women it's the worry about discomfort. For others, it's the fear of what the images might show.

But avoiding an appointment doesn't make the uncertainty disappear.

If your doctor has recommended a mammogram, making the appointment means taking the next step in looking after your health.

And if you're nervous, tell your mammographer. You don't have to pretend you're not.

That's one of the reasons mammography is such an important tool in breast cancer screening.

A mammogram uses X-rays to create detailed images of the breast and can identify certain changes before they can be felt as a lump or noticed through other symptoms.

It doesn't replace knowing your body and it doesn't mean every woman needs the same screening schedule.

Your age, personal risk and medical history all matter. Speak to your doctor about what is appropriate for you.

That's approximately the lifetime risk of developing breast cancer for women in countries with a very high Human Development Index, according to current WHO estimates.

But here's the part we don't want you to take from that number:

Fear.

Take this instead:

Know your risk. Know your normal. Know when to speak to your doctor.

Breast cancer doesn't always announce itself with obvious symptoms. That's why awareness and appropriate screening both have a role to play.

That doesn't mean you need to diagnose yourself. It means noticing when something has changed.

A new lump or thickening. A change in breast size or shape. Skin changes. Ni**le changes. Unusual discharge.

Most breast lumps are not cancer, but a new or unusual change is still worth discussing with your doctor.

Knowing your normal means you'll notice when something isn't.

And while one month can never cover everything there is to know about breast cancer, it can start an important conversation.

Knowing what is normal for your breasts. Knowing which changes shouldn't be ignored. Understanding where mammograms fit in. And knowing when to speak to your doctor.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women worldwide. Early detection and timely diagnosis matter because finding breast cancer earlier can improve the chances of successful treatment.

This October, let's make breast health something we talk about openly.
