🐒🌿 Well… this is a new problem on the homestead! 😂

For years I never really had a problem with monkeys around the garden or chickens. Now suddenly they’ve discovered that our place apparently offers a free breakfast buffet. 🤦‍♀️😂

They’ve started coming in and helping themselves to chicken eggs and vegetables from the garden, so I’m going to experiment with a few ways to discourage them — without stopping my chickens from free-ranging.

My plan so far:

🐔 Make the entrance to the chicken area much smaller, so the chickens can still move in and out.

🌿 Cover the larger gate/open areas with shade netting to make access more difficult and reduce visibility of food.

🥚 Remove eggs as frequently as possible so there’s less reward for visiting.

🐒 I’m also looking at using a humane catch cage/trap baited with eggs or fruit,

I also added a motion sense alarm making all kinds of sounds to scare them away

It’s amazing how quickly wildlife learns where an easy meal can be found. 😅 Once they discover the eggs, apparently the secret is out!

For those living on farms or smallholdings — what have you tried that actually works to keep monkeys away from chicken coops and vegetable gardens? I’d especially love ideas that are humane, practical and safe around free-ranging chickens. 🌱🐔

🌷 A little bit of spring magic at Dash of Grace! 🌷

I planted my tulip bulbs in June, tucked them into the soil and waited patiently through the cold winter months… and now my first tulip is starting to flower! 🥰🌱

There is something so special about planting a simple bulb when there is almost nothing to see, then months later being rewarded with something this beautiful.

Gardening teaches us so much about patience, hope and faith. We plant, we nurture, we wait — and in the right season, we get to see the beauty unfold. 💗
