🌿 This is why I LOVE continuing to learn about essential oils!
Have a look at this fascinating research shared by Dr Scott Johnson on Rosemary essential oil. 🔬
This was a preclinical study looking at fibromyalgia-like pain, and the findings around pain sensitivity and Rosemary were really interesting. I love seeing researchers continue to investigate these incredible plants and their natural constituents.
Rosemary is already one of my favourite versatile oils — I love using it for focus and concentration, hair and scalp care, and in muscle/massage blends. 🌿
What particularly caught my attention here was the discussion around limonene, one of the naturally occurring constituents researchers identified as potentially contributing to the observed effects. We also find limonene prominently in many of our beautiful citrus oils. 🍊🍋
Research like this always makes me think: what else are we still going to discover?
And when I already have Rosemary at home, it certainly gives me another reason to include it in some of the blends I’m using and see how my body responds. 💚
Do you have Rosemary? What do you use yours for?
A preclinical study found that administration of rosemary EO (composition not reported) significantly reduced several hallmarks of fibromyalgia-like pain, including sensitivity to touch, sensitivity to cold, and heightened pain responses. Although the ethanolic rosemary extract produced the strongest overall effects, the essential oil also demonstrated meaningful pain-relieving activity, and the researchers identified limonene as one of the constituents that likely contributed to these benefits. Hopefully research will continue to determine if, and how, this applies to humans with fibromyalgia.
