๐ When was the last time you really stopped and looked at yourself?
It's easy to look at what's happening around us and focus on what other people are doing.
"They hurt me."
"They don't listen."
"They should understand."
"Why do they keep doing this?"
But sometimes, the more difficult question is:
"What is happening inside of me?"
Self-reflection isn't about blaming yourself for everything that goes wrong. It's about being honest enough to notice your own reactions, your patterns, your fears and even the things you may not want to acknowledge.
Why does this situation upset me so much?
Why do I keep responding in the same way?
Why do I struggle to say what I really need?
Why do I keep accepting things that leave me unhappy?
These aren't always comfortable questions. But they can tell us a lot about ourselves.
In my counselling work at Hope & Healing for Families, I often encourage people to become curious about their own experiences rather than simply trying to change the people around them.
My integrative counselling approach allows me to look at the person as a whole โ their experiences, emotions, thoughts, relationships and patterns โ rather than focusing on only one part of what they're going through.
Because sometimes we can't change what happened.
But we can begin to understand how it has shaped us.
And with that understanding comes the opportunity to make different choices.
๐ฟ So here's something to think about...
What is one thing you've learned about yourself through a difficult experience?
I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Sometimes a simple reflection can start a conversation that someone else really needs.
