What Are Occupational Lenses?
Occupational lenses are designed to provide clear vision for near and intermediate distances. It is ideal for work and hobbies that require frequent focus shifts. It typically covers a range from 40cms to 2 metres.
Near vision – for reading, documents, tablets, and smartphones
Intermediate vision – for desktop tasks and mid range tasks
Unlike standard varifocals/multifocals, occupational lenses are not designed for driving or long-distance vision. Instead, they maximize clarity and comfort for the distances most used indoors.
How They Work
These lenses are intermediate to near lenses, with the lower part optimized for near vision (e.g reading or paperwork) and the upper part for intermediate distances (e.g. computer screens or tasks at a mid range distance). This design reduces eye strain, neck tension, and headaches caused by constantly switching between different glasses or adjusting head position. They provide wider viewing zones for near and intermediate tasks compared to traditional varifocals, which often have narrow intermediate zones.
