We need to talk about toxic positivity. šŸ¤”

Being positive generally means having an upbeat, hopeful outlook on life. Toxic positivity, on the other hand, is the incessant pressure to stay happy and cheerful – no matter how difficult the circumstances.

Whether it’s a breakup, job loss, illness, or tragedy, toxic positivity demands that we push through and maintain a sunny demeanour regardless of the adversity we face.

And this is not a healthy state of mind.

Inflammation is another one of those catch-all terms that seem to be used to cover/explain every random health issue these days. But what is it really? 🧐

The whole ā€œprevention is better than cureā€ thing… what’s that really about? Doctors don’t all give out the same-sounding advice because they attended a secret meeting and decided, ā€œHey, let’s just keep saying this!ā€ šŸ˜‚

Prevention will almost always be better than waiting for a problem to become a problem. Small habits, repeated over time, can have a much bigger impact than one dramatic overhaul.

It means doing the ā€œboringā€ stuff consistently: moving your body, eating reasonably well, getting enough sleep, keeping up with recommended vaccinations and screenings, knowing your numbers, and paying attention when something doesn’t feel right.

None of this guarantees that you’ll never get sick. That’s not what prevention means. It means stacking the odds in your favour (ideally long before there’s a crisis to deal with).

Also, prevention can help prevent financial stress down the road: https://wellbeingsafrica.com/how-early-health-screenings-can-save-money-and-lives/

Guys, can we please have an honest discussion about what a "narcissist" actually is? 🧐

ā€œNarcissistā€ has become a catch-all. An ex who hurt you, a difficult boss or someone who behaves badly isn’t necessarily a narcissist.

The good news is that you do not need a medical diagnosis to recognise harmful behaviour. Manipulation, control, belittling, gaslighting or emotional abuse are worth taking seriously regardless of what label sits behind them.

And you don't have to diagnose someone to protect yourself. You can set boundaries, leave unhealthy relationships and ask for help without proving that the other person is a narcissist first.

Struggling to remember things? Here are 5 ways to improve your memory šŸ¤”

1. Bring out the puzzles, word games, Pictionary, and brainteasers to challenge your brain – and have a good time while you’re at it. These games can do a lot to enhance your memory and cognitive skills. Try Sudoku, crosswords, or memory card games. Or download brain-training apps for five-minute sessions throughout the day. These activities challenge your mind in a playful way, helping you to think faster and remember more.
2. The hippocampus is the part of the brain that’s associated with memory and it loves it when you exercise. Regular exercise, even simply just moving around, can work wonders for your memory and boost this part of the brain. No time to walk or swim? Set the timer for five minutes and have daily dance breaks.
3. Filling up on brain-boosting foods like fatty fish, blueberries, walnuts, and dark chocolate can help keep your memory sharp. These foods contain good amounts of antioxidants and nutrients that support brain health. So, make snack time brain fuel time.
4. Laughter is the best medicine for good reason. Laughter induces the brain to release feel-good chemicals and stimulates better memory-making. Settle in with some comedies and enjoy the actual laugh out loud moments.
5. Your brain typically finds it easier to remember small bits of information at a time. Whether you’re trying to remember a long shopping list, project notes or even someone’s name, break it down into smaller, manageable chunks. You’ll find it easier to recall later.
