This article proposes a radical rethinking of what it means for an encounter to be therapeutic. Drawing on Foucault's concept of limit-experiences, R.D. Laing's radical methodology, Avgi Saketopoulou's psychoanalytic theory of limit consent, and the negative psychoanalysis of Julie Reshe, it argues that genuine therapeutic events do not preserve the self but risk it. Through two narrative scenes - a therapy session and a Sh***ri performance - the article demonstrates that ethics in both kink and therapeutic practice is not a matter of pre-negotiated rules but of the quality of attention brought to what cannot be anticipated. Where Saketopoulou argues that transformation becomes possible only at the point of ego overwhelm, Reshe refuses even that promise: there is no cure, only presence. The article proposes a methodology grounded in what it calls the kink of therapy: a willingness to come undone alongside another; to die into the encounter rather than supervise it; and to find communion around shared vulnerability - something more honest than any rule-bound notion of safety can offer.

The Daily Maverick has prevented me from commenting further on their post (and comments from a seemingly racist, hate filled readership) and so I will comment further on it here: When Israeli forces seized the Freedom Flotilla in international waters, they acted outside their jurisdiction, without due process, and against international law.
That’s not a “detention” — it’s an abduction.

Referring to these humanitarians, some of them South African citizens, as being “detained” sanitizes what it really is: the extrajudicial capture of unarmed humanitarian activists delivering aid to a besieged civilian population.

And South Africans, more than most, should recognize this pattern.
It echoes the logic of apartheid regimes — state violence disguised as legality, language used to mask injustice, and a system built on impunity.
Israel’s tactics mirror those once used here: forced removals called “relocations,” political prisoners called “detainees,” and repression framed as “security.”

We of all people should know:
When words soften crimes, oppression survives.
