Lydia Batchelor - Clinical Psychologist

Lydia Batchelor - Clinical Psychologist Durbanville Clinical Psychologist I work from a supportive base offering containment to those experiencing distress or just going through a “difficult time”.

Working in private practice in Durbanville, I conduct psychotherapy to assist individuals with alleviating and containing their distress and helping them to optimise their level of functioning. I see adults, adolescents as well as children. I believe in creating a confidential and non-judgmental space for clients in which they can work through their internal as well as interpersonal conflicts and

struggles. Working from a mostly psychodynamic viewpoint, I see therapy as a journey of self-discovery. My areas of interest include but are not limited to:

§ Depression and other mood disorders (Bi-polar, dysthymia etc)

§ Anxiety & related disorders (PTSD, social Anxiety, Panic Disorder etc)

§ Interpersonal & Relational difficulties (partner conflict / parent-child conflict)

§ Adjustment and transitional changes of life (retrenchment, relocation etc)

§ Bereavement & Loss experiences (death, divorce, breakups, seperations)

§ Antenatal & Post-natal complications (post natal depression/ difficulty in adjusting to parenthood)

§ Difficulties of motherhood (kids driving you crazy?)

§ Interpersonal skills like Assertiveness & Conflict Resolution can also be taught

§ R**e Trauma

§ Parenting difficulties and skills

§ Medical Psychology (adjustment to newly diagnosed conditions)

§ Personal growth & Development

§ Work related coaching & counsellling

Orientation:

Although I am interested in working psychodynamically, I also have extensive experience working from a cognitive-behavioural perspective. Depending on the presenting problem, the level of distress experienced, as well as my clients’ needs, I aim to work collaboratively with you to come up with a treatment plan you feel would work for you. The first few sessions are set up for an assessment after which I will have a better idea of the dynamics of the situation and what I can offer. This is also a time for you to assess whether you are comfortable with me and my way of working. Finding a therapist can be daunting and one needs to feel safe and “click” with your therapist for therapy to be successful. Rates:

§ I charge medical aid rates for consultations and submit directly to your medical aid.

§ Payment plans can also be arranged once therapy commences
