The next part in the series of Low iron and the importance of replenishing your iron stores.

Testing for low iron is important because iron is essential for making hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout your body. Low iron can develop gradually, and identifying it early can prevent complications.

Here are some key reasons why testing matters:

- Detects iron deficiency before severe anemia develops. Iron levels can become low before your hemoglobin drops. Early testing allows treatment before symptoms worsen.

-Identifies the underlying cause. Iron deficiency is often a symptom rather than the disease itself. Testing can help determine whether it's due to:

-Heavy menstrual bleeding
-Pregnancy
-Poor dietary intake
-Problems absorbing iron (such as Celiac disease)
-Blood loss from the digestive tract, including ulcers or polyps

-Guides appropriate treatment. Not everyone with fatigue needs iron supplements. Taking iron when you don't need it can be harmful, so testing helps determine whether supplements, dietary changes, or further investigation are appropriate.

-Monitors response to treatment. Repeat testing can show whether iron levels are improving and whether treatment is working🔬💊🩸.

Starting the series of low iron off with the sign and symptoms:

Low iron (with or without anemia) can cause a wide range of symptoms. Common signs include:

- Feeling unusually tired or weak
- Shortness of breath, especially with activity
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Headaches
- Pale skin, gums, or inner eyelids
- Cold hands and feet
- Rapid heartbeat or heart palpitations
- Difficulty concentrating or "brain fog"
- Irritability or mood changes
- Reduced exercise tolerance

NB - Please keep in mind, that this symptoms does not exclude any other illnesses. But it is aways a good starting point to check your iron levels if you experience any of these symptoms!

Have a great Thursday!

I recently attended two conferences regarding the importance of testing your iron levels. All it requires, to start with, is doing a Full Blood Count and a Full Iron Profile.

I realized that little is known or spoken about the importance of iron profile testing, starting from your adolescent years (especially for females, but does not exclude males).

I found it important to start a series where I will be posting regularly and explain the signs and symptoms, the importance of testing, the different treatment options as well as the benefits of getting your iron fully replenished.

Starting soon...🤓

Vitamin infusions (often called IV vitamin therapy) deliver vitamins, minerals, and fluids directly into your bloodstream through an IV drip. This bypasses the digestive system, which is why they’re often marketed as faster or more effective than oral supplements.

Here are the main potential benefits:

💧 1. Faster nutrient absorption
Because nutrients go straight into the bloodstream, your body can use them immediately. This can be helpful if you have:
a) Digestive issues (like Crohn's disease)
b) Malabsorption problems
c) Severe deficiencies

⚡ 2. Quick hydration
Many infusions include fluids and electrolytes, which can help with:
a) Dehydration
b) Recovery after illness, travel, or intense exercise

🍊 3. Correction of deficiencies
IV therapy can effectively treat deficiencies in nutrients like:
a) Vitamin B12
b) Vitamin C
c) Magnesium

This is especially useful if levels are very low or oral supplements aren’t working.
