This past week we had the joy of welcoming the Atterbury Trust Foundation to Salt & Light — and our hearts are still full. Thank you, Liaune Goedhals and Danelle Strydom, for your time, your presence, and your belief in what’s growing here.

Because of this partnership, our little ones are starting their mornings with warm, nourishing Start Well porridge — and we’re already watching them grow, thrive, and arrive ready to learn. Our beautiful new afdak means more room to gather, play, and belong, whatever the weather.

None of this happens alone. Restoration is always a shared story — hands joining hands, each partner adding something to the whole.

If something here stirs your heart, we’d love to welcome you into it too. Whether you’re a family, a business, a church, or simply someone who believes every child deserves a place to belong — there’s room for you at this table. Come build with us. 💛

📩 Reach out to us — we’d love to introduce you to the children, the vision, and the hope taking root here.

The work of small hands.

Watch a child build with wooden blocks — stacking, balancing, steadying each piece before reaching for the next — and you’re watching something far deeper than play.

In a Montessori environment, this is the work. A child deciding where a block belongs is building focus. Coordination. Patience. The quiet confidence that says, I can do this myself. When a tower topples, they learn something too — and they begin again. These are the same roots that grow, in time, into curiosity, independence, and purpose.

We don’t rush it. We make space for it. Because every child carries the potential to learn, to grow, and to belong — and sometimes the most important lessons are built one small block at a time.

Swipe to see what purposeful work looks like. 🌱

Belonging isn’t something we hand out. It’s something a child feels the moment they walk through the door — in a warm greeting, a space made just their size, a teacher who kneels to meet their eyes.

At Salt & Light, every child arrives already worthy. Already full of potential. Our work isn’t to fix — it’s to nurture what’s already there: the curiosity, the courage, the light.

This is what whole-child development looks like. Not just learning to read and count, but learning I matter here. I am seen. I belong.

“Let your light shine before others.” — Matthew 5:16

When a child sits in a circle, listens, wonders, and reaches for something new, they’re not just being taught. They’re being seen. Known. Nurtured toward the person they’re becoming.

This is what whole-child development looks like: curiosity that’s welcomed, confidence that’s built gently, and purpose that takes root over time. Every child arrives with something worth cultivating — and here, they belong while they grow.

Because when we nurture the whole child, we help hope take shape one life at a time. 🌱

One dot at a time.

Green, blue, yellow — a small hand presses colour onto paper and something bigger is happening than art. This is how curiosity grows: through touch, texture, and the freedom to try. Hands-on learning isn’t messy for the sake of it. It builds focus, confidence, and the quiet joy of “I made this.”

Every child who walks through our doors is learning that their ideas matter, their hands can create, and this is a place where they belong.

🌱 Learning with purpose. Nurturing potential. One child at a time.

For Ouma en Oupa Day, our little ones traded their usual energy for flat caps, painted-on moustaches and their very best grandparent wisdom — and somehow they’ve never looked more themselves.
There’s something tender about watching a child try on who they might one day become. The slow, serious shuffle. The borrowed glasses sliding down a tiny nose. Play like this isn’t only fun — it’s how children imagine the world and their place in it.
Young at heart, every single one of them.
A place where you belong — at every age.

On this Youth Day, we celebrate every young heart and mind.

June 16 reminds us of the courage of young people who once stood for their right to learn and it reminds us why education still matters today.

Every child carries purpose. Every child deserves a place where they belong.

At Salt & Light, we believe in nurturing curiosity, dignity, and hope one child, one family, one community at a time.

Here’s to raising a generation that learns with purpose and leads with heart.

Happy Youth Day, South Africa.

Small hands. Big focus. Quiet wonder.

There’s a kind of wonder in watching a child lose themselves in a page of colour. No rushing. No comparing. Just curiosity moving one careful line at a time.

This is what hands-on learning looks like, children leading their own discovery, building focus and confidence through play that has purpose. Every crayon held, every shape filled in, is a child learning that their ideas matter and their creativity belongs here.

Because creating isn’t just an activity. It’s how a child says I am here, and I have something to give.

A place where you belong.

Learning with purpose. Nurturing potential. Hope for every child.
