Introducing Tebogo Shibambu, an experienced caregiver at ISISA.
“As a caregiver I’ve enjoyed working with elderly and palliative care patients, and individuals recovering from surgery. My responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, medication reminders, mobility support, and providing companionship and I am committed to ensuring that my patients feel comfortable, respected, and well cared for at all times.
One of the most challenging aspects of caregiving has been supporting patients living with dementia who may become confused, anxious, or distressed. Through this experience, I have learned the importance of remaining calm, speaking gently, and maintaining consistent routines to help patients feel safe and secure.
Another challenge has been caring for patients with limited mobility. I approach these situations with patience, empathy, and careful attention to their comfort, dignity, and safety, ensuring they receive the support they need while maintaining as much independence as possible.
Working with palliative care patients has taught me the value of compassion, patience, and emotional support. I strive to provide comfort and reassurance during difficult times, offering companionship and a calming presence so that patients do not feel alone. My goal is to help them experience peace, dignity, and the highest possible quality of life.
I enjoy the opportunity to make a positive difference in someone's life, building trusting relationships with patients and their families and I take pride in providing care that improves their comfort and well-being. Seeing a patient smile, regain confidence, eat better, or simply feel less lonely because of my support is incredibly rewarding.
Patience, kindness, reliability, respect and treating every patient as if they were a member of my own family is key when caring for my patients. I am dedicated to giving them 100% of my time, attention, and commitment during my time with them.”
CARING HANDS, CARING HEARTS.
