Therapy for cerebral palsy typically involves a team of healthcare professionals who work together to improve functional abilities, minimize limitations, and promote independence in individuals with cerebral palsy. The main types of therapy for cerebral palsy include:
1. Physical Therapy (PT): Focuses on improving gross motor skills, mobility, coordination, and balance. It may involve exercises, stretching, strengthening, and the use of assistive devices to improve functional abilities.
2. Occupational Therapy (OT): Aims to improve fine motor skills, coordination, and independence in activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing, eating, and writing. It may involve strategies to address sensory integration difficulties and the use of adaptive equipment or techniques.
3. Speech and Language Therapy: Helps individuals with communication difficulties by improving speech production and language skills. It can also address feeding and swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) commonly seen in individuals with cerebral palsy.
