If your skin feels rough or bumpy, especially on the cheeks, arms, or thighs, you may be experiencing keratosis pilaris. It’s caused by a build-up of keratin blocking hair follicles.

You might notice:

• Small flesh-coloured or red bumps
• Dryness
• Rough texture
• Worsening in winter

The important part? It’s harmless and very common.
While there’s no permanent cure, ingredients like Urea, Lactic acid and Salicylic acid can significantly smooth texture over time.

Products you can try are:

• CeraVe smoothing cream
• Eucerin 10% Urea
• Ordinary Glycolic Acid

Not every bump is acne, and not every skin concern needs aggressive treatment.

Speak to your dermatologist to determine the best treatment for your skin.

Often, the pricier a product, the more persuaded we can be. But here’s the truth about expensive skincare products.

Some products are often marketed at a higher price due to:
• Packaging
• Branding
• Fragrances included
• Marketing
• Influencer campaigns

They do not always necessarily contain better or more effective ingredients.

In skincare, what matters most is:
✔ The active ingredient
✔ The concentration
✔ The formulation stability
✔ Whether it’s appropriate for your skin

A well-formulated, affordable product can often outperform many expensive products.
More expensive does not mean more effective, and more affordable does not mean inferior.

Remember: our skin responds to science, not status.

Yes, dark patches on the face during pregnancy (known as melasma) are very common and are often referred to as the “mask of pregnancy”.

Melasma is caused by an increase in melanin production, and the most common triggers are sun exposure, pregnancy and oral contraceptives.

While melasma is harmless, it can be a cosmetic concern for some women.

Treatment involves avoiding triggers and using prescription medicated creams and, when necessary, tablets.

If you have a concern, always consult with your dermatologist.

The simple answer is: No. You cannot physically shrink your pores. BUT you can minimise their appearance.

Here are some tips and tricks to help minimise the appearance of pores:

• Keep pores clear with gentle exfoliants like salicylic acid.
• Use non-comedogenic skincare and makeup.
• Maintain hydration to smooth skin texture.
• Consider professional treatments for deeper results, such as chemical peels and lasers

Remember: Visible pores are a normal part of skin.
However, with the right care, you can refine your skin’s texture and help reduce the appearance of pores.

A common misconception is that we need to treat ageing skin when it begins to show signs of ageing. However, preventative skin care can start in your 20’s. Early care for your skin can help lead to healthier skin and longevity.

Speak to your dermatologist to determine a skincare routine to help with preventative anti-ageing at an earlier stage.

What causes pigmentation, and what can you do about it?

Pigmentation can develop from sun exposure, hormonal changes, or post-inflammation (like after acne).

Types include melasma, sun spots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Treating pigmentation effectively requires sun protection, targeted skincare (like Vitamin C, retinoids, and azelaic acid), and sometimes chemical peels or laser treatments.

Book a consultation with your dermatologist to assess your skin and find the best option for you, as not every treatment suits every skin type.

Your skin barrier is your body’s defence system. When it’s damaged, you may notice dryness, sensitivity, redness, or breakouts.

Common culprits: over-exfoliating, harsh cleansers, or too many active ingredients.

Support your barrier with a gentle routine: use hydrating cleansers, ceramide-rich moisturisers, and always protect with SPF.
✨ A strong barrier = healthy, glowing skin✨

Some skin cancers can first appear as a persistent, pimple-like lesion. Early detection is crucial, so if you notice a small bump on the skin that doesn’t heal within six months, it’s important to have it checked by your dermatologist.

Early detection of skin cancer is key.

⚠️ Risk factors for skin cancer include but are not limited to: sun exposure, skin type (fair skin that burns easily), ageing, and a history of previous skin cancer.
