We often measure faith by prayer, church attendance, serving and how much a person can endure.

▪︎ But what does faith look like inside our relationships?

▪︎ Is staying together at all costs evidence of faith?

▪︎ Is silently enduring abuse faithfulness?

▪︎ Can someone be spiritually active while emotionally wounded, financially controlled, socially isolated and physically unsafe?

Faith should never become language that teaches people to normalise abuse or hide pain.

Sometimes faith is having the courage to bring what is happening in darkness into the light.

You can be functioning and still be wounded.

You can go to work, raise your children, serve in church, lead others, smile and encourage everyone around you while quietly carrying pain.

Functioning is not always the same as healing.
Surviving is not always the same as living.

There comes a time when we must stop merely managing the pain and give ourselves permission to heal.

Healing begins when we become honest about what hurts.

MEET OUR SADC KETURAH MENTAL HEALTH AWARDS ADJUDICATOR

We are honoured to introduce Mr. Ronnie Naidoo as one of the esteemed adjudicators for the SADC Keturah Mental Health Awards.

With over 35 years of experience, Mr. Naidoo has served as a Counsellor, Chaplain, Pastor and Teacher, walking alongside individuals and families through some of life’s most difficult seasons.

He is an accredited Wellness Counsellor, trained through the University of Johannesburg (RAU) and ASCHP, as well as a SETA-accredited Facilitator and Assessor.

He serves as a Pastor at Siloam Ministry and as an accredited Chaplain supporting the SAPS, EMPD and Correctional Services on the East Rand. His heart is to create safe spaces where people, including parolees, can heal, rebuild and rediscover hope.

As Principal of two Bible Schools, he has also trained and accredited students across South Africa.

We are privileged to have his wealth of counselling, pastoral, teaching and community experience on the KMHA Adjudication Panel.

Mental health support should not only begin when someone reaches a therapist's office.

Families, churches, workplaces and communities also need people who know how to listen, communicate, identify distress and make appropriate referrals.

That is why Arise and Shine Heirs facilitates a FREE 5-Day Basic Counselling Skills Workshop.

Churches, organisations, institutions and communities can invite us to host the workshop in their area.

The goal is not to turn everyone into a professional counsellor. The goal is to equip ordinary people with foundational skills to respond more responsibly and compassionately when someone says:
“I am not okay.”

Your story can become more than something that happened to you. It can become education and preserve the next generation.

▪︎ Advocacy.
▪︎ Encouragement.
▪︎ Healing.
▪︎ A pathway that helps someone else understand that they are not alone.

Through our Writing Class for Psychosocial Authors, we equip aspiring and established writers to use writing intentionally to address psychosocial issues, mental health, lived experiences, healing and transformation.

Some stories must not remain hidden.

Someone else's healing may begin when you find the courage and skill to tell yours responsibly.

Men need safe spaces where they can speak honestly, receive guidance and grow without judgement.

Too many men have been socialised to believe vulnerability is weakness. As a result, some suffer silently, struggle to communicate their emotions and only seek support once they have reached crisis point.

Our Men2Men Mentorship Programme creates a brotherhood where men from different African countries can have meaningful conversations around:
▪︎ Mental health
▪︎ Fatherhood
▪︎ Relationships
▪︎ Financial wellness
▪︎ Purpose
▪︎ Leadership
▪︎ Personal development
▪︎ Holistic well-being

Our vision is to raise emotionally healthier, responsible men who positively influence their families and communities — and eventually mentor the next generation of boys.

Healed men can help build healthier families!

Restore honor to men, reposition leaders, and align them with their destinies!

Mental health advocacy does not only happen inside a counselling room. It happens through lived experiences.

▪︎ Through books.
▪︎ Through poetry.
▪︎ Through workplaces.
▪︎ Through caregiving.
▪︎ Through media.
▪︎ Through youth initiatives.
▪︎ Through grassroots community projects.

That is why the SADC Keturah Mental Health Awards recognise impact across multiple categories, including:

Media Impact, Leadership Through Lived Experience, Psychosocial Author, Psychosocial Poetry, Youth Impact, Grassroots Impact, Workplace Impact, Caregiver Impact, Disability Impact, Special Impact and Outstanding Impact, among others.

You do not necessarily have to be a psychologist or counsellor to become a mental health champion. Sometimes lived experience becomes advocacy.

Sometimes pain becomes purpose and sometimes one community initiative becomes somebody else's lifeline.

Many African communities face common mental health challenges:

▪︎ Mental health stigma.
▪︎ Trauma.
▪︎ Gender-based violence.
▪︎ Poverty.
▪︎ Unemployment.
▪︎ Limited access to services.
▪︎ A shortage of trained professionals.

No organisation and no country can address these challenges alone. Regional collaboration allows us to share resources, knowledge, culturally relevant interventions and successful community-based models.

It also allows African voices to contribute to solutions that understand our families, communities, cultures, spiritual beliefs and lived realities.

The SADC Keturah Mental Health Awards are therefore not simply about competition.
They are about connection, collaboration and building a regional mental health movement.

Many mothers are silently carrying emotional, financial, family and workplace responsibilities.

Some are parenting alone.

Some are married but still feel emotionally alone.

Others are navigating grief, betrayal, divorce, postpartum challenges, financial pressure, caregiving responsibilities and demanding careers while continuing to show up for everyone around them.

We cannot continue praising mothers for being strong while continuously adding more weight to their shoulders.

Supporting mothers means listening without judgement, sharing responsibilities, creating accessible counselling and support structures, and building healthier families, workplaces, churches and communities.

Support must become practical, consistent and intentional!
