🏡 A FAMILY IN DURBANVILLE NEEDS YOU: Live-in Companion & Facilitator Role for a Neurodivergent Young Male Adult

Do you have a passion for supporting neurodivergent individuals and helping them thrive through consistency, structure, and meaningful connection?

We’re looking for an energetic, compassionate Afrikaans-speaking companion and facilitator to support an 18-year-old young man with cerebral palsy and neurodiverse support needs.

This rotational, bi-weekly live-in role combines home-based support with facilitation in a farm-based programme, offering the opportunity to make a lasting difference in a young person’s life.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, reliable, physically active, and able to provide calm, predictable support while encouraging growth, independence, and engagement in daily activities.

The Neurodiversity Centre provides comprehensive support and training, specialising in neurodiversity.

Introduction to Neurodiversity: Understanding and Supporting Autism and ADHD

A practical two-day course exploring neurodiversity, with a focus on autism and ADHD and how we can better understand and support neurodivergent individuals.

Designed for facilitators, au pairs, caregivers, tutors, teachers and parents, the course introduces key concepts through a neurodiversity-affirming lens and provides practical, evidence-informed strategies for everyday support.

Over the two days, we’ll explore:
– What is neurodiversity?
An introduction to autism, neurodiversity and the principles of a neurodiversity-affirming approach.

– How does a neurodivergent brain experience the world?
The role of the nervous system in shaping behaviour, emotions, learning and regulation.

– Why does neurodivergence look different in every person?
Individual differences, co-occurring conditions and the diverse ways neurodivergence presents.

– How does neurodivergence affect everyday life?
Communication, sensory processing, executive functioning and the lived experiences of neurodivergent individuals.

– Why do behaviours become challenging?
Understanding behaviour through a compassionate, person-centred lens and recognising the factors that influence it.

– How can we support neurodivergent people?
Practical, evidence-informed strategies that promote regulation, participation and independence.

– How do we create environments where people thrive?
Inclusive environments, collaborative support and approaches that enable neurodivergent individuals to flourish.

– How do we put it all into practice?
Applying knowledge and strategies through practical examples, reflection and real-world scenarios.

We are delighted to introduce Shani Klopper Johnson, our experienced Clinical Psychologist, who primarily consults from our Hilton branch and is also available in Durban North.

Shani works with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, providing compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each individual's unique needs. She has extensive experience supporting individuals with anxiety, mood difficulties, trauma, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive conditions, personality disorders, and Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviours.

With a special interest in neurodiversity, Shani has worked extensively alongside individuals with Autism, Intellectual Developmental Disabilities, and co-occurring mental health challenges.
