Ever noticed that soft, fluffy hair on a newborn baby? 🥹

It’s called lanugo, and it actually has an important job before baby is born.

Lanugo is the fine, soft hair that develops on baby’s body during pregnancy. It helps the vernix stay on baby’s delicate skin, providing protection while they’re surrounded by amniotic fluid.

Most of it is shed before birth, but some babies arrive with a little lanugo still covering their shoulders, back, forehead or ears. It’s especially common in babies born a little earlier.

There’s absolutely no need to remove it. It will gradually disappear naturally during those first weeks of life.

Just another incredible little reminder of how perfectly babies are designed for their journey into the world. 🧡

Postpartum doesn’t come with a six-week deadline. 🧡

Your body has been through pregnancy, birth, and an enormous physical and emotional transition. Recovery takes time, and that timeline will look different for every mom.

Some changes happen over weeks, others over months, and some can take much longer. There is no rush to “bounce back” or feel like your old self again.

Be gentle with yourself. Give your body the time, care, and support it deserves through every stage of postpartum recovery.

From all of us at M&V Midwives, remember: healing is a journey, not a deadline.

World Breastfeeding Week | 1–7 August
As midwives, we have the privilege of empowering mothers with evidence-based guidance, compassionate care, and the confidence to trust their instincts. Our words, encouragement, and presence can make all the difference during those precious early days.

This World Breastfeeding Week, let’s continue to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding through sensitive, mother-centred care because when we support mothers, we give babies the best possible start.

🎀 To Every Mama Whose Birth Story Included A C-Section . .

There is something so deeply personal about the way we remember the day our babies entered the world.

For some mothers, a C-Section is something that was planned and prepared for. For others, it is a decision made unexpectedly when plans change, circumstances shift, or when it becomes the safest way for both mother and baby.

Whatever your story looked like, it is yours to honour.

Sometimes, there can be complicated emotions surrounding a C-Section. You may feel grateful, relieved, emotional, proud, disappointed, empowered, overwhelmed - Or perhaps a mixture of all of these at once. There is no single way you are supposed to feel about your Birth experience.

And if your Birth did not unfold the way you had imagined, please remember that a different Birth story is not a lesser one.

You gave Birth to your baby.

You carried them. You brought them into this world. You held them for the first time. You began the extraordinary journey of motherhood.

Your body may need time to heal, and your heart may need time to process everything you experienced. Both deserve patience and kindness. 🤍

🧸 Here Are A Few Gentle Reminders To Carry With You . .

~ My Birth story is my own, and I honour the way my baby came into the world.

~ My body deserves tenderness, patience and time to heal.

~ I do not need to compare my Birth story to someone else's.

~ I am allowed to feel every emotion that comes with my experience.

~ My scar carries a story - One of courage, love and bringing my baby safely into my arms.

~ I can be proud of myself for everything I moved through, even the parts that were difficult.

~ My motherhood is not defined by the way my baby was born.

And perhaps, with time, you may look at your scar differently. Not simply as a reminder of what did not go according to plan, but as a small piece of the story of how you and your baby found your way into each other's arms.

There is no perfect Birth story. There is simply your story - With all of its unexpected moments, emotions, strength and love.

So be gentle with yourself, Mama. Give yourself permission to rest. Give yourself permission to heal. Give yourself permission to speak about your experience honestly, whatever that experience was.

And when you look back on that day, I hope you can see not what you think you should have done differently, but the mother who was there, doing her very best, loving her baby with everything she had.

Your story may have taken an unexpected path, but it brought you to the moment you met your baby and that moment will always be yours. 🤍

World Breastfeeding Week 🤍

This week, we celebrate World Breastfeeding Week - A time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of breastfeeding, promoting education, and encouraging families, communities, and healthcare professionals to support mothers throughout their breastfeeding journey.

Breastfeeding is one of the most natural ways to nourish a baby, providing essential nutrients, strengthening their immune system, supporting healthy growth and development, and fostering a deep emotional bond between mother and child. It is a journey that offers comfort, connection, and security in ways that extend far beyond nutrition.

At the same time, breastfeeding is not always easy.
For some mothers, it comes naturally. For others, it may involve challenges such as learning a proper latch, managing discomfort, navigating supply concerns, or simply finding confidence in the early days of motherhood. Every breastfeeding journey is unique, and every mother deserves to feel supported rather than judged.

🌸 A Few Gentle Reminders . .

~ Your body is doing remarkable work, so remember to care for yourself too. Stay hydrated, nourish your body, and rest whenever you can.

~ Asking for help is a sign of strength. Lactation consultants, midwives, healthcare providers, and supportive loved ones can make all the difference.

~ Every feed is more than nourishment. It's a moment of comfort, connection, reassurance, and love.

~ Comparison has no place in motherhood. Your journey is your own, and your baby doesn't need perfection; They simply need you.

World Breastfeeding Week is also a reminder that mothers thrive when they are surrounded by understanding and encouragement. Whether that support comes from a partner, family member, friend, employer, healthcare professional, or community, every act of kindness helps create an environment where mothers and babies can flourish.

To every mother who has breastfed, is currently breastfeeding, hopes to breastfeed, or has faced unexpected challenges along the way, we celebrate your strength, your patience, and your unwavering love.

May we continue to build a world where every mother feels informed, empowered, supported, and never alone.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week. Here's to nurturing little lives, one loving moment at a time. 🤍
