Medicare Private Hospital in Rustenburg, in collaboration with Al-Imdaad Foundation and the National House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders under the leadership of Chairperson Kgosi Thabo Seatlholo, has launched a collaborative program to improve access to life-changing cataract surgery for vulnerable communities.
The program was launched at Medicare Private Hospital on 8 September 2026 in collaboration with Dr Ola Boni, with the aim of helping patients who may otherwise face long public-sector waiting lists or be unable to afford private cataract care.
The launch was attended by the Executive Mayor of Rustenburg Local Municipality, Cllr Shiela Mabale-Huma, and Bojanala Platinum District Municipality MMC for Special Projects, Cllr Mahommed Karani. The initiative also received strong support from traditional leaders across Gauteng and the North West Province.
“Restoring sight is about restoring dignity, independence and opportunity. Medicare Private Hospital is proud to work with public-sector and non-profit partners to bring much-needed cataract services closer to people who need them most,” said Mr Fabion Bennett, Hospital Manager of Medicare Private Hospital.
