Today we stand together in solidarity with all those living with Lupus and the families who walk this journey with courage every day. As the founder of Gloves Up Foundation, and as a child and youth advocate, I wish to express our full support to the Lupus Awareness programme led by Elihle Samu Foundation in the Ugu District.

Lupus is not just a medical condition — it is a daily battle that affects the body, emotions, dignity, and future of many young people and women in our communities. Far too many suffer in silence because of lack of awareness, stigma, delayed diagnosis, and limited access to proper healthcare support. Awareness campaigns such as this are important because they educate communities, encourage early detection, and remind those living with Lupus that they are not alone.

As organisations working with children, youth, and vulnerable communities, we believe health advocacy is part of protecting human dignity and social justice. Every child, young person, and woman deserves access to healthcare, support systems, information, and compassionate care.

We commend Elihle Samu Foundation for raising their voice on this important issue and creating safe spaces for education, healing, and hope. Your work is helping to break the silence around invisible illnesses and empowering communities to respond with understanding instead of judgement.

To all those living with Lupus: your pain matters, your story matters, and your life matters. Continue to fight with courage and hope. Communities must stand with you, not only during awareness campaigns, but every day.

Together, let us build healthier, informed, compassionate, and caring communities in Ugu District and beyond.

In solidarity and advocacy,

Freedom Day can feel hollow when reality doesn’t match the promise—especially when young people lack representation and children still face neglect and abuse. That frustration is justified. 💭

For South African youth, Freedom Day isn’t something fully delivered—it’s something still being fought for. ✊🏽 It raises urgent questions: What is freedom without youth representation? What does it mean for children who are unsafe or disconnected from education? And who is responsible for change?

The truth is, political freedom was achieved—but social and economic freedom remains incomplete. ⚖️

So what does Freedom Day mean for youth today? Less celebration, more action:

• Representation 🗳️ – Youth must be leaders and decision-makers, not just voters.
• Protection 🛡️ – Children must be safe—systems must be challenged and held accountable.
• Opportunity 🎓 – Education, jobs, and skills are essential to real freedom.
• Participation 📢 – Change requires organising, voting, and holding leaders accountable beyond elections.

Freedom Day is a reminder:
✨ We inherited political freedom, but completing it is our responsibility.

✊🏽

The Silence of the Lens: When “Discipline” Becomes Abuse

This Good Friday, while many gather in peace, some children are suffering in silence, even being filmed instead of helped.

There is a clear difference between discipline and abuse.
Holding a child down and beating them is not parenting. It is violence.

The damage goes beyond bruises. It breaks a child’s sense of safety, leaving deep emotional scars that can last a lifetime.

And those who record it without intervening are not innocent. Turning a child’s pain into content is a second form of abuse.

Silence allows this to continue. We must speak out.

**If you see abuse:**

* Don’t share, report it
* Contact authorities immediately
* Speak against those who justify it

Be the voice a child doesn’t have.

**Protect children. Break the silence.**
