Chifubu Level 2 Hospital is pleased to announce the establishment of a Preconception Clinic, a significant step towards improving maternal and child health within our community.
Preconception care is the provision of comprehensive biomedical, behavioral, and social health interventions to women and couples before pregnancy occurs. It focuses on optimizing the health of prospective parents by identifying and addressing medical conditions, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and reducing individual, behavioral, and environmental risk factors that may contribute to poor pregnancy outcomes.
The clinic offers an opportunity for women and couples who are planning to conceive to receive personalized care and guidance from qualified healthcare professionals. Services include health assessments, screening and management of existing medical conditions, nutritional counseling, lifestyle modification advice, immunization reviews, family planning counseling, and education on achieving a healthy pregnancy.
The ultimate aim of preconception care is to improve maternal and child health outcomes in both the short and long term. By ensuring that women enter pregnancy in the best possible health, we can reduce the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth, improve birth outcomes, and give every child the healthiest possible start to life.
At Chifubu Level 2 Hospital, we believe that every healthy pregnancy begins with proper planning and preparation. We therefore encourage all women and couples who are considering starting or expanding their families to visit our newly established Preconception Clinic and take advantage of these essential services.
Together, we can build healthier families, healthier pregnancies, and healthier communities.

✅Sickle Cell Disease is a condition a child is born with. It happens when a child receives the sickle gene from both mother and father. Children with SCD may have frequent fevers, body pains, paleness, swelling of hands and feet, and frequent infections. If you notice these signs, please bring your child to the clinic early for testing and care.
✅The good news is that with love, proper nutrition, plenty of water, regular clinic visits, and prescribed medicines, children with Sickle Cell can grow well and live healthy lives. Expectant mothers are encouraged to know their blood status during antenatal visits.

Following the recent accreditation assessment by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia, the Nursing In-Charges at Chifubu Level 2 Hospital met away from the hospital to reflect on the process and strengthen team relationships.
✅The accreditation period required intense preparation and focus, which can be both physically and mentally demanding for healthcare workers. Creating time to come together outside the clinical environment allowed the team to share experiences, learn from the assessment, and renew their commitment to quality patient care.
✅This meeting highlighted the importance of teamwork and staff wellbeing in maintaining high standards. The leadership at Chifubu Level 2 Hospital remains committed to supporting its staff while continuously improving service delivery to the community.

🚨Measles spreads fast through coughs, sneezes, and even just breathing in the same room. It starts like a cold but can lead to serious complications like pneumonia and brain swelling, especially in young children.

✅The best protection? Vaccination. 2 doses of the measles vaccine give strong, long lasting immunity.

✅Let’s keep our families and communities safe. Check your vaccination status and encourage others to do the same.

Fetal distress occurs when a baby in the womb lacks oxygen or struggles during pregnancy and labor. It’s treated as an emergency because risks can escalate fast without quick care.
✅The main danger is to the baby’s brain and organs. Too little oxygen can lead to developmental delays, cerebral palsy, other disabilities, or even stillbirth.
It can also cause heart, kidney, or liver problems, low birth scores, and the need for resuscitation or NICU care. This raises the risk of breathing issues, infections, and long-term health problems.
For mothers, it often means an emergency C-section.
✅Delays in care make outcomes worse.
✅Warning signs include reduced fetal movement, abnormal heart rates, and meconium-stained fluid.
With early detection, regular antenatal visits, and prompt treatment, most harm from fetal distress can be prevented, leading to safer births and healthier babies.
It is our responsibility to ensure the best possible outcome for both our mothers and their babies while our main stake holder being the mothers should make sure their antenatal visits are made from inception.
