“This AAC Awareness Month, I want to talk about something beyond awareness. I want to talk about ACCESS.”

Every October, we talk about AAC awareness, the importance of communication, and how every voice matters.

But this year, at The Speech Clinic Dubai, we wanted to do something different.

We wanted to move from AWARENESS to ACCESS.

Because what is the point of creating awareness if families who need AAC still struggle to access it?

We believe communication should never be a privilege. It is a basic human right.

So, this AAC Awareness Month, we are offering 100 FREE access slots to our SpeechSync AAC app to support children and families who need another way to communicate.

Because every child deserves the opportunity to express their needs, make choices, connect with others, and be heard.

This AAC Awareness Month, we decided to take awareness beyond the therapy room and into the community. 💙

Because communication doesn’t happen only during therapy.

It happens at cafés, supermarkets, playgrounds, schools, restaurants and everywhere in between.

Our goal is simple: to help our community understand that not everyone communicates using spoken words — and that’s okay.

AAC users have thoughts, choices, feelings, jokes, opinions and so much to share. Sometimes they simply need a different way to express them — and a little more time for us to listen.

This month, we’re stepping into the community to create more awareness, acceptance and inclusion for AAC users.

Because true inclusion begins when every person has the opportunity to communicate — and every form of communication is valued. 💙

It can tell us about:

🧠 Motor planning & sequencing — Can the child organise and perform the movements in the correct order?

☝️ Finger isolation & dexterity — Can each finger move independently with control?

👀 Visual-motor coordination — Can the child use visual information to guide the movement?

⏱️ Timing, rhythm & speed — Can they maintain a smooth and consistent sequence?

↔️ Bilateral coordination — What happens when we compare or coordinate both hands?

🎯 Motor control & precision — Are the movements accurate, graded and controlled?

An OT may change the challenge by asking the child to go forward → backward → faster → slower → eyes closed → both hands together → alternating hands.
