Baby sleep is one of the topics parents are most worried about. Combined with long or traumatic birth, feeding difficulties and the mother’s own hormonal changes - lack of sleep can really affect new parents, especially mothers.

Along with the 10 reasons shared above for why your baby may be having disturbed sleep, it is important to remember that underlying tensions or blockages can also cause discomfort. When we conduct our osteopathic assessment at birth, 1 month, 3 months, etc. we routinely check for these symptoms.

If you are experiencing severe sleep disorders in your newborn, get in touch to know more about the highly effective osteopathic approach.

Helping babies thrive and empowering new parents with the confidence and tools they need is exactly what I am passionate about, and your words reflect that beautifully. It’s the best part of my work - changing lives of new parents!

It was the 9 month assessment of her baby. The mother noticing her baby’s interest in walking, asked:

“Is it safe to use baby walkers?”

Watch my answer and let me know: Did your babies use walkers? Did it help them learn how to walk?

From an osteopath’s point of view, walkers don’t help babies walk. They teach them to tiptoe and run. These can be detrimental at early ages.

You’ll be happy to know that all you need to do as a parent to help your baby walk is usually … nothing!

Babies naturally develop an interest to stand and walk at a certain pace. It’s best to leave them to do this on their own so they develop the strength required in their legs.

Thank you S* for the review. More importantly, I am glad that your baby is improving. Neck, jaw and shoulder tightness is often the cause for many common baby troubles. It can impact their feeding, latching, and more.

Parents often ask: “Do I need to train my child to walk?” They are often eager to encourage their child to take his first steps. What’s recommended in this case? Let’s find out.

Recently, a study published from Sweden made me think deeply. I was apprehensive of sharing it because I do not want mothers to feel anxious.

An important and often life-saving part of obstetric care, C-section births have helped many mothers and babies. However, the research in question concluded that there were risks involved for the baby born via planned or elective cesarean.

My goal is to help mothers who are really split 50-50 between what type of birth to choose. Again, this study is not about medically necessary or emergency C-sections. It is only indicating a higher risk in children born via fully elective, planned cesarean births.

It’s rare to have a study with good numbers on this topic. Around 2 million births were studied. A higher risk was found for a type of childhood leukemia in children born by elective, planned C-section.

✅ It’s interesting because in this study, the risk is not higher in emergency c-section or medically necessary ones.

Always have in mind that this is only one study, and the results are never absolute.

From the point of view of the doula, midwife, etc. we can always do what is medically necessary. This study is simply one more piece of research to consider before deciding.

✨ Every pregnancy, every mother and every baby is unique in their own way.

Osteopathy for neonatal infants in the NICU is a genuinely fascinating and still-evolving area of practice.

WHAT IS NEONATAL OSTEOPATHY?

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) applied to preterm infants in intensive care involved extraordinarily gentle, hands-on techniques.

Babies born early - especially those under 32 weeks - have often missed weeks of normal uterine development.

They then arrive into an environment full of tubes, monitors, prolonged positioning on flat surfaces …

NICU TEAMS BRING IN OSTEOPATHS FOR:

- Feeding difficulties
- Gastric issues (reflux and feeding intolerance are constant challenges in the NICU)
- To help them breathe without respiratory support
- Positional plagiocephaly (flat head)

In the UK, neonatal osteopathy has been practiced in some NHS-linked settings for decades. In the US too, some DO-staffed hospitals integrate it.

NOT REPLACEMENT FOR MEDICINE

Neonatal osteopathy is never a replacement for medical care. It is a complementary therapy that helps the tiny patients recover faster and go home sooner.

Did you know tongue tie shows up way beyond just the oral restriction?

These are signs - not a diagnosis. But if you spot one or more, it’s worth a visit to a specialist.

➡️ Small or retracted jaw
➡️ Double chin
➡️ Lip blisters
➡️ Heart-shaped tongue

Does your little one show any of these? Tell me what other signs you’ve noticed.

I always have toys on hand to keep the little tigers busy during our treatment - but this little one had other plans! 😂
