You don't have to be told twice that life in the UAE moves fast. A recent Cigna Healthcare Vitality Study puts real numbers behind what so many of us are feeling, and it turns out almost everyone here is carrying more than they realise.

The tricky part is that burnout often hides in plain sight. It doesn't always look like exhaustion, sometimes it looks like getting through the day just fine on the outside. Some signs worth paying attention to:

- Feeling tired even after a full night's sleep
- Struggling to focus on simple tasks
- Losing patience more quickly than usual
- Feeling numb or disconnected from things you used to enjoy
- Never fully switching off, even on days off

If any of this sounds familiar, you are not failing, your nervous system has been carrying a lot for a long time without enough space to recover.

Burnout is not something you push through, it is something you treat, at the root. At Positive Living UAE, we combine psychotherapy and neurofeedback to help you understand what your stress is telling you and build real tools to regulate it, not just manage it.

If this feels familiar, reach out. You deserve support, not just survival mode.

Some children learn to hide what they're really feeling long before they learn how to talk about it.

Masking is when a child suppresses their true emotions, needs, or behaviours to appear "fine," calm, or well-behaved, even when they're struggling inside. It's not lying or manipulation. It's a survival skill, a way of staying safe, accepted, or avoiding disappointing the people around them.

It can look like:

- A child who says "I'm okay" but seems withdrawn or unusually quiet
- Holding it together all day at school, then melting down the moment they get home
- Copying how other kids behave to fit in, even when it doesn't feel natural
- Suppressing stimming, fidgeting, or other self-regulating behaviours in public
- Being the "easy" child who never seems to need anything

Masking usually happens because a child has learned, somewhere along the way, that their real feelings aren't safe to show. Maybe they were told to "toughen up," maybe they picked up on a parent's stress, or maybe they're neurodivergent and have learned to camouflage traits that made them stand out. Whatever the reason, the mask takes energy to hold up, and over time it can lead to anxiety, burnout, or a child feeling disconnected from who they really are.

The good news is that with the right support, children can learn it's safe to take the mask off. If this sounds familiar and you'd like support understanding what's underneath the mask, we're here to help.

How many years have you spent taking care of everyone else, and quietly forgetting to come home to yourself?

If you've been feeling stuck, disconnected, or like you're just going through the motions on autopilot, you're not alone. So many of the women who walk through our doors at Positive Living UAE are "successful on paper" but running on empty inside: carrying old beliefs that keep them small, boundaries they never learned to set, and a voice they've quieted for far too long.

The Conscious Woman, The Feminine Power program is a space to change that. Together, we work on:

Releasing limiting beliefs and irrational fears that hold you back
Building real emotional intelligence and resilience
Setting healthy boundaries, without guilt
Rebuilding self-worth, self-love, and self-compassion
Living authentically, aligned with who you really are

Using Rapid Transformational Therapy (Marisa Peer), NLP (Richard Bandler), and 10+ years of clinical experience in the UAE, this program meets you exactly where you are, online or in person at our Al Barsha Heights clinic.

You deserve to feel like yourself again. Book your free 15-minute discovery call on WhatsApp and let's talk about what that could look like for you.

Anxiety has a way of pulling us out of the present moment, racing thoughts, a tight chest, that overwhelming feeling that something is wrong even when you can't quite explain it. If you've ever felt anxiety take over, whether it's before a big meeting, a difficult conversation, or just in the middle of an ordinary day here in Dubai, you're not alone, and there are simple tools that can help bring you back.

One of the techniques we teach often in our sessions is the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding exercise. It's simple enough to use anywhere, at your desk, in traffic, or at home, and it works by gently guiding your mind back to the present moment using your five senses.

Here's how it works:

🌿 Name 5 things you can see around you
🌿 Notice 4 things you can feel, your feet on the floor, the fabric of your clothes
🌿 Listen for 3 things you can hear
🌿 Identify 2 things you can smell
🌿 Notice 1 thing you can taste

As you go through it, you can gently remind yourself: I am here. I am safe at this moment. I can come back slowly.

This won't erase anxiety completely, but it can help you find your footing again when things feel like too much. And if anxiety has been showing up more often than you'd like, or feels harder to manage on your own, that's exactly what we're here for.

Save this post for the next time you need it, and reach out to us if you'd like more support in managing anxiety long term.

Sometimes we walk into therapy convinced the problem is our partner, when really, it's the way we've learned to talk to each other over the years.

If you and your partner keep circling back to the same argument, or feel like you're speaking two completely different languages even after all this time together, this is for you. So many couples here in the UAE are juggling long work hours, family pressure, distance from loved ones back home, and it all adds up. Little misunderstandings turn into walls, and before you know it, you're roommates instead of partners.

Imago Couple Therapy isn't about deciding who's right and who's wrong. It's about understanding the patterns you both bring into the relationship, often without even realizing it, and learning how to truly hear each other again.

In our sessions together, we work on:

🌿 Understanding your patterns, the ones you didn't even know you were repeating from childhood or past relationships
🌿 Learning to really listen, not just wait for your turn to speak
🌿 Healing old wounds together, instead of carrying them alone and letting them build resentment
🌿 Rebuilding trust and intimacy, one honest, safe conversation at a time

Love isn't always the problem. How we communicate often is, and the good news is, that can be repaired with the right support.

If this sounds like where you and your partner are right now, you don't have to figure it out alone. Send us a message and let's start the conversation together.

As a therapist, one of the things I see most often is people quietly wondering if something about the way they experience the world has a name, without ever getting the language for it. Autism doesn't always show up the way we've been taught to expect. Many adults live for years without recognizing these quieter signs in themselves, simply because they don't match the stereotype.

Here's what those signs can actually look like:

πŸ”Ή Replaying the same song again and again, not out of habit, but because repetition itself feels grounding.

πŸ”Ή Eye contact that comes across as unusually intense or fixed, the opposite of the "avoids eye contact" idea most people carry.

πŸ”Ή Naturally absorbing the accent, phrasing, or mannerisms of whoever they're spending time with, almost without meaning to.

πŸ”Ή Wearing noise-canceling headphones in public with nothing playing, simply to turn the volume of the world down.

πŸ”Ή Having close, meaningful friendships that mostly exist around one shared passion or interest, rather than general socializing.

πŸ”Ή Experiencing autistic burnout, a deep physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion that follows periods of masking, socializing, or sensory overload.

None of these are flaws to fix. They're simply part of how some brains are wired, and recognizing them can bring real relief, especially for adults who've spent a lifetime wondering why they felt different.

If any of this resonated with you or someone you love, you don't have to figure it out alone. Reach out to Positive Living UAE, we're here to help you understand yourself with compassion, not judgment.

05/09/2026

Have you ever watched someone you love go from fine to overwhelmed in what feels like seconds? For a lot of ADHD brains, a meltdown doesn't come out of nowhere. It's the end point of a build-up the body has been signalling for a while, often long before anyone around them notices.

Learning to read those early signals changes everything, both for the person experiencing them and for the people trying to support them. Here are the signs to watch for before a meltdown hits:

πŸ”Ή Restlessness in the body: bouncing a knee, rubbing the hands, adjusting clothes again and again
πŸ”Ή A sudden, intense mood shift: what looks like snapping "out of nowhere" is usually the last straw on a pile that's been building
πŸ”Ή A headache creeping in, or body tension and pain increasing: emotional overload shows up physically before it shows up in words
πŸ”Ή A sudden gasp after shallow breathing: the body has been holding its breath under the strain
πŸ”Ή Easily annoyed by noise or interruption: sensory input that's normally manageable suddenly feels unbearable
πŸ”Ή Cognitive decline: words start to feel like noise, and simply processing then responding becomes exhausting

None of this is bad behaviour and none of it is a choice. It's a nervous system reaching capacity and doing its best to ask for space. When we recognise these signs early, we can respond with patience instead of pressure, and that shift alone can prevent a meltdown from happening at all.

If this describes you, your child, or someone you love, support is available and regulation can be learned. You don't have to navigate this alone.

Reach out to Positive Living UAE to learn more about how we support ADHD brains, big and small.

Circles for Teens : Free Community Support Group (Ages 15–18) 🌿

As a mom of three teenagers myself, I know how hard growing up can feel today the pressure, the isolation, the emotions that don't always have anywhere to go.

I'm Luz, a Compassionate Inquiry (CI) practitioner-in-training, currently completing my certification in Compassionate Inquiry in Education (CIE) the trauma-informed approach developed by Dr. Gabor MatΓ© and Sat Dharam Kaur, ND. I've studied directly under Dr. MatΓ©'s methodology, and I'm now ready to bring it to teens right here in our community.

That's why I'm opening Circles for Teens a free, weekly/bi-weekly group circle where teenagers build real skills for navigating life's hardest moments, in a safe, supported space.

Why this matters for your teen:

πŸ’› Safety first β€” a space where they're truly seen and never judged.

🧠 Self-regulation β€” practical tools to calm their nervous system under stress.

πŸ—£οΈ Communication skills β€” learning to name and express emotions instead of bottling them up.

🌱 Sense of agency β€” rebuilding confidence in their own voice and choices
🀝 Connection & belonging β€” real friendships with peers who get it

This isn't therapy it's a peer support and skill-building circle, grounded in trauma-informed education principles used worldwide. As part of my certification, I'm supervised by my mentor in Canada, who reviews the group's progress throughout the program.

The details:

πŸ“ Positive Living UAE Clinic
πŸ—“οΈ Every Friday, 5:00–6:30 PM
⏳ 6-month program (weekly/bi-weekly sessions)
πŸ‘₯ Limited to 15 teens so every voice is heard
πŸ’΅ Only 49 AED/session covers space rental, refreshments & materials (facilitation itself is offered at no cost)
βœ… Parental consent required to join

❓ Quick Q&A

Is this therapy?
No, it's a peer support and psychoeducational group, not clinical treatment. If a teen needs individual therapy, I'll always refer out.

Is it confidential?
What's shared in the circle stays in the circle, with one exception: if I ever have safety concerns about a teen, I'll involve a parent or the right support always in the teen's best interest.

Do parents get updates?
Yes. I'll share general progress and themes with parents, without breaking individual teens' trust or privacy.

Who's running this?
Me, Luz currently completing my CIE certification under direct supervision from my mentor in Canada, who reviews the group's progress.

What if my teen misses a session?
It is not preferable, as we need weekly participation to give the best results from the education. But, no problem just message me in advance so we can keep the group flowing smoothly.

This is my way of giving back to this community and helping the next generation build the emotional tools so many of us wish we'd learned earlier. πŸ’¬

Spots are limited to 15 teens to keep the group intimate and safe. Message me directly if you'd like your teenager to join, I'd love to talk with you about it.

Betrayal doesn't have to be the end of the story. I know that might be hard to hear if you're in the thick of it right now, but in over a decade of working with couples, I've seen it firsthand: relationships that broke in the worst possible way can become stronger than they ever were, not despite what happened, but because of how both people chose to move through it.

That doesn't mean forgetting, and it definitely doesn't mean rushing back to "normal." It means something much harder, and much more honest:

πŸ”Έ The person who broke trust has to fully own it, no excuses, no "but you also..." Real accountability means sitting with the pain you caused, not defending yourself from it.

πŸ”Έ The person who was betrayed needs space to feel everything, anger, grief, confusion, without being rushed to "get over it."

πŸ”Έ Rebuilding trust isn't one big gesture, it's shown in hundreds of small, consistent moments over time. Trust is rebuilt in behaviour, not just in words.

πŸ”Έ Both partners have to be willing to look at what the relationship needs now, not just patch over what broke, but actually rebuild something new.

πŸ”Έ This work is almost impossible to do alone in the same room where it happened. A safe, guided space makes all the difference.

If you're reading this because it hits close to home, I want you to know something: wanting to repair what broke doesn't make you weak, and it doesn't mean you're settling. It means you see something worth fighting for. Healing after betrayal is some of the hardest work two people can do together, and also some of the most transformative. I've walked alongside many couples through exactly this, and I'd be honoured to walk alongside you too. πŸ’›
