Advancing Abdominal Wall Surgery with Single-Port Robotics
Proud to share our recently published case in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports describing a novel application of the da Vinci Single-Port (SP) robotic platform for complex abdominal wall reconstruction.
Using a single concealed Pfannenstiel incision, we performed a totally extraperitoneal repair of multiple midline ventral hernias with associated re**us diastasis, including:
โข Midline reconstruction and plication
โข Reduction of multiple hernia defects
โข Preperitoneal/sublay mesh reinforcement
โข No intraperitoneal mesh placement
โข Single suprapubic access
The patient recovered uneventfully and was discharged on postoperative day 1 with excellent functional and cosmetic outcomes.
This case highlights the potential of the da Vinci SP platform to extend single-port robotic surgery into complex extraperitoneal abdominal wall reconstruction, while maintaining established sublay repair principles.
