Most people think of vision loss as everything going dark or blurry. Macular degeneration takes something far more specific — and far more devastating. 👁️
The macula is the small central part of the retina responsible for reading, recognising faces, watching television, and seeing fine detail. AMD targets it directly.
The edges of your vision remain. But the centre — the part you use for everything that matters most — is the first to go.
AMD cannot currently be reversed. But its progression can be significantly slowed with early detection and the right treatment. A routine eye exam is where we find it.

Share this with someone who needs to see what AMD actually looks like. 👁️

Most people think an eye exam tells you whether you need glasses. This is what it actually checks. Swipe through. 👁️
Eye pressure. Retinal blood vessels. Optic nerve health. Corneal shape. Tear film quality. Early signs of systemic disease — including diabetes and cardiovascular conditions — that are visible inside the eye before they show up anywhere else.
An eye exam is not a glasses prescription check. It is a full clinical review of one of the most complex and important organs in your body.
If you haven't had a comprehensive eye exam this year — this is the reason to book one. 👁️

The question I hear at almost every cataract consultation — is the surgery painful? 👁️
The honest answer: no.
Anaesthetic drops are applied before the procedure. The eye is completely numb. You feel no pain during surgery. Some patients describe slight pressure at certain points — but not pain. The procedure takes 10 to 15 minutes from start to finish.
Mild grittiness or sensitivity for a day or two afterwards is normal. Vision improvement is typically noticeable within 24 hours. Most patients are surprised by how manageable the experience actually is.
If fear of pain has been stopping you from booking — I hope this answers it. Come and ask me anything before you decide. 👁️

This is what early treatment looks like. 👁️
When a child has strabismus — a misaligned or crossing eye — every week without treatment matters. The brain begins to suppress the image from the affected eye, and over time that suppression becomes permanent. The window to treat it effectively does not stay open forever.
This family did not wait. And the result speaks for itself.
Thank you for trusting Dr. Qasim with your child's sight — and for sharing your story so openly. It will reach another parent who needs to see it. 🙏

If you have been wondering whether SupraLASIK is an option for you — most people are surprised to find out they qualify. Swipe through. 👁️
SupraLASIK is a bladeless, flapless laser procedure that corrects vision without cutting a flap in the cornea. This gives it a safety profile and stability advantage over traditional LASIK — and makes it suitable for patients who may not have been candidates for standard laser surgery.
Not everyone qualifies — and I take candidacy seriously. There are specific clinical criteria that determine whether it is safe and appropriate for each patient.
A proper assessment gives you a definitive answer. It takes 30 to 45 minutes and tells us everything we need to know. 👁️

She had been told she needed cataract surgery three years ago. Fear kept her from booking it. 👁️
In those three years, what would have been a straightforward procedure became more complex. And she had spent three years seeing less clearly than she needed to.
The fears patients have about cataract surgery are real and I take them seriously. Being awake during the procedure. Something going wrong. The recovery. I hear these every week.
The reality: the procedure takes 10 to 15 minutes. The eye is fully anaesthetised — no pain. Most patients are surprised by how calm the experience is. Recovery is typically a matter of days.

If fear has been stopping you from booking — come and speak to me first. That conversation costs nothing. 👁️

July is Dry Eye Awareness Month — and if your eyes have been worse this month than any other, this is exactly why. 👁️

Dubai in July is a perfect storm for dry eye. Air conditioning running 24 hours a day drops indoor humidity below 20%. Stepping outside into 45-degree heat destroys the tear film within minutes. Moving between the two repeatedly through the day compounds the damage.
Add screen time — which peaks as people stay indoors — dropping the blink rate to a third of normal. Add contact lenses competing for whatever moisture remains.
Every single one of these is at its worst in July. And most people assume the discomfort is just part of summer in Dubai.
It is not something you have to put up with. Save this and share it with someone who has been struggling this month. 👇

This is what glaucoma does to your vision if left untreated. Not a diagram. The actual experience, stage by stage. 👁️

It starts at the edges — where you least notice it. Your brain fills in the gaps. Life continues normally. Then the edges close in further. Then further. Until only a small central field remains.
The progression takes years. Which is exactly why patients think they have time.
With treatment — started at whatever stage the disease is currently at — this progression can be stopped completely. The vision already lost cannot be recovered. But what remains can be protected for life.
If you have been diagnosed and are delaying treatment — this is what waiting looks like. 👁️
