1. MLD is done WITHOUT oil.
We need to achieve a very specific skin stretch, and oil doesn’t help us do that.
2. Lipedema is a painful fat disorder, not obesity.
Pain/tenderness of the affected tissue is one of the key features that separates lipedema from simply having disproportionate body fat.
3. Your therapist should be able to provide 360° lymphedema care.
Assessment of the swelling, a treatment plan, hands-on treatment, bandaging when needed, compression garment recommendations, measurements and fitting.
4. If someone says: “I only do MLD” — 🚩
If they are claiming to treat lymphedema but cannot assess, bandage or manage compression, they are not providing complete lymphedema therapy.
5. Instagram followers and views can be bought. Credentials can’t.
Don’t choose your healthcare provider based on numbers on a screen. Check their education, certification and clinical experience.
6. Your therapist’s certification matters. A LOT.
There are only a few reputable, comprehensive lymphedema certifications worldwide. Always ask where and how they were trained.
7. There is no “one protocol fits everyone.”
The best treatment is highly personalized, based on your diagnosis, stage, symptoms, lifestyle, tissue changes and goals.
8. MLD alone is NOT the gold standard treatment for lymphedema.
Compression is one of the most important parts of lymphedema management. In many cases, we need a combination of MLD, compression, exercise, skin care and education.
9. Your compression garment should not be an afterthought.
The type of knit, compression class, style, fit and timing matter. The wrong garment can be uncomfortable, ineffective, or simply unsuitable for your condition.
10. Lymphedema is chronic, but that does NOT mean nothing can be done.
With proper assessment, early intervention and long term management, swelling and symptoms can often be significantly improved and better controlled.
YOU DESERVE MORE THAN A “LYMPHATIC MASSAGE”! YOU DESERVE PROPER LYMPHEDEMA/LIPEDEMA CARE! 🙏🏻❤️
Save this. Share it with someone living with swelling. 🤍
