A look inside one therapy session 🌟

No two therapy sessions look exactly the same. Each session is designed around a child’s individual goals, strengths, and needs.

Throughout a session, therapists may focus on:
✅Building rapport and engagement
✅Supporting communication and social interaction
✅Teaching and practicing new skills
✅ Encouraging independence
✅Helping children transition between activities and environments
✅Celebrating progress through positive reinforcement

Many learning opportunities happen through play, everyday routines, and natural interactions. This approach, often referred to as Natural Environment Teaching (NET), helps children learn and practice skills in meaningful, motivating situations.

While every child’s goals are different, each session is designed to support meaningful skill development and help children build skills that can be used across home, school, and community environments.

We know how hard toilet training can be because we support families through it every day.

For many families, it can be one of the most challenging parts of a child’s development, especially when accidents, resistance, communication difficulties, or inconsistent progress become part of the journey.

At Neam, toilet training is one of the many skills we help children develop during their therapy sessions. We work closely with families to build the routines, communication, independence, and confidence that support long-term success.

Because we know how challenging toilet training can be, we’re sharing a few practical strategies that may help at home:

✔️ Create predictable toilet routines throughout the day
✔️ Use meaningful motivation and positive reinforcement
✔️ Teach children how to communicate when they need the bathroom
✔️ Celebrate small steps of progress along the way

Remember: toilet training is a skill that develops over time. Progress may look different for every child, and that’s okay.

This learner is working on Responding to Text as a Listener (RTL), an important skill within the Functional Academics component of the Essential for Living (EFL) curriculum.

Before beginning RTL, she learned to match written words to objects and objects to written words, building a strong foundation for functional reading. Now, she is learning to read simple lists and retrieve familiar items she uses in her daily life.

These skills go beyond academics. They support independence by helping learners use written information in meaningful, practical ways.

At Neam Clinic, we use individualized teaching approaches, including the Essential for Living (EFL) curriculum, to teach functional skills that increase independence and improve quality of life.
