Reframing is a technique that can be helpful to parents dealing with children who are exhibiting negative behavior. It involves viewing a child's negative actions or thoughts in a different way and helping the child do the same.

Reframing is said to be a "simple but powerful tool" that strengthened parent-child relationships. By reframing thoughts from negative to positive, parents can assist their child in improving how he responds to different situations.

The term "phobia" refers to a group of anxiety symptoms brought on by certain objects or situations.

A specific phobia, formerly called a simple phobia, is a lasting and unreasonable fear caused by the presence or thought of a specific object or situation that usually poses little or no actual danger. Exposure to the object or situation brings about an immediate reaction, causing the person to endure intense anxiety (nervousness) or to avoid the object or situation entirely. The distress associated with the phobia and/or the need to avoid the object or situation can significantly interfere with the person's ability to function. Adults with a specific phobia recognize that the fear is excessive or unreasonable, yet are unable to overcome it.

Getting a note or a phone call from a teacher about your child's behavior problems can be embarrassing. Whether he got into a fight at recess or he said some unkind things to the teacher, don't panic. Even really good kids slip up once in a while.

It's important, however, to take action so you can reduce further behavior problems at school—especially if your child gets into trouble often. Work with the school administration, your child's teacher, and your child to address the problem. With a team approach, you can create a behavior plan that will turn behavior problems around fast.

The speech treatment plan developed for your child will vary depending on the subtype of communication disorder that he or she has, as well as on other factors such as your child's intellectual ability, behavior, and personality.

There are essentially three main goals for communication disorder treatments: 1) to help children to develop and improve their communication abilities, 2) to help children develop coping strategies and alternative communication options enabling them to compensate for times when their communications abilities are insufficient, and 3) to help children get used to using and practicing their communication skills and coping strategies in real-world environments such as home, at school, and with friends.
